The Director, SCFR Advice Tools will lead a small team focused on thought-leadership, consulting, & support for Schwab's financial planning, investing, & wealth management advice tools.

- Advice Tools. This work will involve consulting and support to a range of Schwab Retail and Schwab Wealth & Advice Solutions group projects relating to current and prospective planning, investing, and wealth management tools, models, and methodologies used by Schwab. The Director must be aware of and fluent in current technology and tools to deliver calculations, guidance or advice on investment planning, retirement planning, and other topics critical to comprehensive planning and wealth management.
- Advice Policies & Guidelines. This work will involve support to the Schwab Retail and Schwab Wealth & Advice Solutions group as well as legal, supervision, and compliance partners on policies, guidance, and best practices for Schwab advice reps when delivering planning or investment advice to clients using these tools. The work will include consulting and support on asset classification, index selection, security classification, and other best practices & guidance.
- Advice Visuals & Charts. This work will involve leadership of a small team that manages a collection of client- and advisor-approved advice charts, collected in the SCFR Chart Library, as well as support to Schwab's Market & Economy Chart Book and other data-driven resources used by Schwab representatives when working with Schwab retail prospects or clients.
In addition, the Director will lead or support, research, whitepapers, or internal memos on select advice topics. The Director will do this on his own/with his team or in partnership with key stakeholders. This work aims to create a consistent, evidence-based point of view for Schwab, on key planning & investing strategies and topics. The Director will then be responsible, with partners, to deliver approved research on Schwab Advice Tools and content.
Expectations:
The Director will:
- Serve as deep subject matter expert on the both the technical details, as well as advisory best practices, on a wide range of advice tools (e.g., MoneyGuide Pro, Aladdin Wealth). The director will also be versed in the underlying financial analyses and techniques behind the tools (e.g., Monte Carlo, portfolio construction, factor-risk analysis, financial planning).
- Work closely with business partners, working groups, and executives to understand, contribute to, and support Schwab's retail and advisory advice tools vision, strategies, and offers.
- Influence, advise, and support best practices in financial planning, investment planning, & wealth management advice delivered via advice technology and tools.
- Navigate through cross-functional work groups and project ownership with high emotional intelligence, flexibility and awareness of the needs and priorities of partners, navigating ambiguity and achieving clarity on tasks and responsibilities when required.
- Partner with SCFR's market strategists to build, manage, deliver and increase the impact of Schwab market and advice charts and visuals.
- Lead a current SCFR team of 2 directors and one analyst.
- Have a strong combination of both technical and leadership/communication skills.
What you have
- BA/BS required, Masters desirable.
- FINRA Series 7 required.
- Industry certifications (CFA/CFP/CIMA) preferred.
- Minimum 10 years in the financial industry, including 5+ years in researching and implementing advice tools into a retail broker and/or advisory organization(s) or offer(s).
- Demonstrated retail portfolio management including asset allocation, risk analytics, & management skills.
- Comprehensive understanding of wealth management & financial planning advice, & tools. Preferred experience with Aladdin Wealth, MoneyGuide Pro, and/or comparable portfolio management planning and other wealth management, advice tools
- Strong organizational, collaboration, and partnership skills.
- Excellent verbal & written communication skills.
- Ability to inspire organizational change/growth.
- Ability to set priorities & manage a team.
