In 2012, with a view to balancing our business globally, the Capital Group Management Committee approved a plan to build the retail and institutional business across Europe & Asia. In Europe, additional offices have been opened in Luxembourg, Zurich, Madrid, Milan Amsterdam and Frankfurt, and in Asia an expanded team across offices in Singapore, Tokyo, Hong Kong and Sydney is focused on growth for the region.
In 2020, a further plan for acceleration in Europe and Asia was approved and the Europe and Asia Client Group ('EACG') was officially formed. This plan involves growing the business from its current AUM of circa $50 billion to $85 billion by 2025 and includes the build-out of existing and new capabilities required to support our Financial Intermediary and Institutional clients across our core markets in Europe and Asia.
One of these new capabilities supporting this growth was the launch of Capital Learning to provide product agnostic client-centric training across our core financial intermediary and institutional markets. Our goal is to partner with our clients in supporting their business goals, building long-term relationships and brand awareness.
Role summary:
With direction of the EACG Capital Learning Consultant Leads and Business Management, the successful candidate will be responsible for shaping and enhancing EACG Japan's client education capabilities, taking responsibility for our existing external Capital Learning programs. He/she will report to Head of Capital Learning - Japan.
As part of the EACG Capital Learning team, he/she will work in partnership with EACG leadership, sales, marketing, and client servicing / relations to understand and define short and longer-term expectations for training capabilities (physical and digital) in Japan. He/she will build and deliver training programs and contents for financial intermediary clients and design and coordinate training sessions for institutional clients.
Primary responsibilities and essential functions:
Financial Intermediaries
- Assess the existing Capital Learning team's financial intermediary training programs and define a plan to complement and evolve the existing courses, building and delivering product-agnostic investment management and practice management training programs.
- Establish relationships with the EACG Capital Learning team and the NACG Practice Management team as well as the EACG Business Management team, to understand the CG global training content, identifying opportunities to leverage and localize contents and experience for the Japan market.
- Conduct training sessions (workshops) for our financial intermediary clients such as banks, IFA-networks and insurance agents on investment management and practice management topics in Japan.
- Independently and in partnership with sales, asset class services and marketing, create local market-specific training content that fit the needs of various types of financial intermediaries. This includes building training programs based on direct input from the clients, sales teams and EACG and NACG teams.
- Directly work with and engage with our clients to help address their training needs through product-agnostic investment and practice management programs and help improve interactions with investors that align with our philosophy.
Institutions
- Work with the institutional team to build and coordinate tailored client training programs for select key clients (i.e., Platinum clients) like for example sovereign wealth funds. This includes determining appropriate content and presenters and building and coordinating programs.
- Collaborate with relationship managers, investment directors and marketing to identify opportunities for improving the training EACG can offer to institutional clients.
- Define an ongoing feedback loop with clients to ensure their views are included in the continuous improvement of our training programs.
Strategic partnership and global collaboration
- Support Head of Capital Learning - Japan a to plan strategies on how to drive Japan sales growth through leveraging CG's accumulated knowledge and expertise of existing intermediary sales support model in abroad.
Experience and qualifications:
Required:
- Manager level or equivalent.
- Experience in teaching and coaching others, ideally within the financial industry.
- Fluency in English (spoken and written, business to native level).
- Credibility with internal and external stakeholders and the ability to work with others.
- Competency in computer and database skills like Word, Excel, and specifically PowerPoint.
- Flexibility to travel for an extended period (maximum few weeks) where required.
Preferred:
- University degree preferred with at least ten years related working experience in the investment management industry and / or financial services, ideally in a training function.
- Experience creating and delivering training to clients, ideally across financial intermediary and institutional channels.
- Experience in marketing or sales, and/or client-facing roles especially dealing with Japanese local distributors would be an advantage.
- Related professional exams and certifications.
Key skills and knowledge:
- Excellent written and oral communications skills, as well as presentation skills including the ability to create and deliver persuasive, engaging and well-structured presentations.
- Excellent team player who is client focused and detail-oriented, able to multi-task and interact with all levels of staff in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to deal with ambiguity and work with limited guidance or definition.

In addition to a highly competitive base salary, per plan guidelines, restrictions and vesting requirements, you also will be eligible for an individual annual performance bonus, plus Capital's annual profitability bonus plus a retirement plan where Capital contributes 15% of your eligible earnings.
