The Director of Finance will serve as a key member of the leadership team and will be responsible for every aspect of financial analysis under the direction of the CFO including strategic business and financial planning, budgeting and analysis. The Director of Finance will also be involved in scaling the finance function.

This person will balance a strong vision for a growing finance team with a hands-on approach to managing the financial operations of an organization that seeks to become more nimble. In doing so, the Director of Finance will work closely with the Company's Co-Presidents, COO, CFO and functional department leaders (Accounting, Operations, HR, etc.), as well as its highly supportive private equity partners, to assure an effective business partnering finance function.

Major Responsibilities

  • Financial Strategy: The Director of Finance will participate in the strategic management of the business; function as a key advisor and business partner to the CFO as well as other key executives. Understand and ensure appropriate attention to the key financial drivers of the company. Project manage and contribute to strategic planning across existing and projected products.
  • Financial Planning & Analysis:Develop systematic procedures and systems for financial planning and analysis, including annual operating plans, forecasts, and all supporting operational reporting. Lead the finance team to provide financial support for product lines through processes of forecasting, reporting, business modeling and decision support. Manage cash flow and provide timely communications regarding future cash projections and requirements. Use of newly invested visualization tools, and deployment of database management skills to advance automation of data analysis, both for the democratization of analysis. Master tracking and communicating the impact/outcomes of such analysis.
  • Business Partner: Work with sales and marketing leadership on evaluation of business opportunities, pricing, promotional effectiveness, sales reporting (revenue and contribution margin), and forecasting.
  • Operational Effectiveness: Partner with COO and CFO in driving operational improvement via analysis and establishment of KPIs/dashboards that monitor performance. Support operational initiatives and help in the integration of acquisitions. In addition, in conjunction with the COO/CFO and VP IT, outline the ongoing requirements to support the analytical needs (in the FP&A section) via processes, tools and systems.
  • Risk & Compliance: Work with the Controller and the accounting team on monthly, quarterly and year-end reporting in accordance with group financial policies and guidelines; and support the accounting team for audits and tax compliance needs.

Candidate Key Selection Criteria

The ideal Director Finance candidate will be recognized as leader that is a high-energy, hands-on team player with a background in a business partner-oriented finance function that can help drive operational improvement via effective analysis and implementing decision support systems. The Director of Finance will personally possess a balance of strong analytical skills and the maturity and credibility to manage the business analytics function and partnering with the CFO to teach the organization to use planning tools to be inspired by their goals, to improve their forecasting accuracy and to use financial analysis to improve their operating acumen. Candidates will be evaluated with a range of assessment tools and interview discussions related to the position description and the following requirements:

  • Experience: The ideal candidate possesses a minimum of 10-15 years' professional experience, with 3+ years in a finance leadership role in medium-sized businesses. Demonstrated experience in providing analytical partnership across all areas of an organization, working 1-1 with operational leaders in a key support function, both as a partner and as a driver of change. Candidate must have experience in leading an enterprise in a holistic annual budgeting exercise that is driven from a strategic planning process. Experience working with private equity firms is strongly preferred, with priority consideration given to individuals who have experience with consumer products businesses that primarily source products overseas and sell to various North American retailers. Public company reporting experience also valued but not required.
  • Education/Credentials: An undergraduate degree combined with finance or accounting designation at a minimum. MBA highly desirable.
  • Technical Expertise: Top-level Excel skills. We have converted to Netsuite as our General Ledger and Power BI for reporting. Interaction with S&OP Director who utilizes Demand Works: Demand Planning Smoothie for granular level forecasting.
  • Knowledge or experience with visualization tools is required. Knowledge or experience with database management tools is a plus. Experience with NetSuite ERP system a plus. Solid knowledge of GAAP, financial accounting and internal controls.
  • Problem Solving/Analysis, Curious Critical Thinker: Able to structure and process qualitative or quantitative data and draw insightful conclusions from it. Exhibits a probing mind and achieves penetrating insights. Generates new and innovative approaches to solving problems with a focus on addressing priority items. Able to make sound decisions based on available data.
  • External Interaction Experience: Previous experience interacting with external parties such as auditors, investors (public and / or private), lenders and acquisition targets. Experience overseeing the sale of a business and leading and reacting to buyer due diligence processes would be an asset.
  • Communications: An excellent oral and written communicator. Proactive communicator with a keen sense of how to deeply connect with people and build trust. Able to effectively explain and articulate strategic, financial and business fundamentals to a variety of people, with varying degrees of financial and business knowledge, both internally and externally. Internally, can engage people across the organization and foster buy-in to new ideas and concepts. Externally is an effective and credible spokesperson for the company. Strong executive presence, presentation and communication skills.
  • Fosters Relationships: Has developed excellent relationships with a broad range of people both within his/her organization Is very comfortable reporting to and working with a private equity firm and Board.
  • Commitment: Willing and able to either reasonably commute to or relocate to Rancho Cucamonga, California is essential. Need someone who is "hands on" and willing to "roll up their sleeves" as the head office is small and lean.
