The eDiscovery Manager is a member of the Legal and Public Affairs team within Booking.com and will oversee a portfolio of discovery projects related to litigation matters, regulatory inquiries and internal investigation requests. The ideal candidate will interact with various teams including Human Resources, Legal, Security, Compliance and IT Services in the course of handling complex discovery projects. Our eDiscovery Manager will also work closely with our US-based parent company, Booking Holdings Inc., to support other business units/ brands within the corporate family (such as Agoda, Priceline, Kayak and Opentable), including a project to launch a dedicated eDiscovery platform as well as to provide general day to day eDiscovery support to our global brands.

The ideal candidate is a technically literate self-starter with excellent understanding of the legal framework of global eDiscovery, existing protocols, practices and technical solutions and relevant legal standards and can manage both the strategic design, operational activities and implementation of best practices.

To be successful, the candidate will be comfortable operating independently in a fast paced tech environment and will possess the ability to remain calm under pressure. They should have the ability to work proactively with various teams to build consensus across the wider corporate group. In addition, the eDiscovery Manager will need to have experience of managing and inspiring a team.

Key responsibilities:

  • Support Booking Holdings Inc with the development and implementation of the group's eDiscovery strategy by driving communications in relation to our eDiscovery capabilities group-wide
  • Define, communicate, and uphold eDiscovery operating standards, workflows and policies for litigation and investigative support
  • Apply information governance and eDiscovery subject matter expertise when advising in-house and outside counsel on active litigations, regulatory and investigative matters
  • Work closely with the internal stakeholders and external parties to successfully deliver on a range of eDiscovery projects
  • The ability to explain complex ediscovery and forensic technology concepts to internal and external legal counsel.
  • A high level of professionalism, integrity, and discretion in handling confidential information, as well as the ability to work well with people at all levels inside and outside the company, are essential
  • Supervise quality control review for responsiveness, confidentiality and privilege and implement appropriate workflows for assigned tasks
  • Consult matter teams regarding the application of technology assisted review (TAR) options, including message threading, near duplicates, concept searching, data visualization and machine learning algorithms
  • Actively contribute to building knowledge capital, sharing knowledge, and gathering intelligence through extensive research and networking.
  • Establish Governance processes, Standard Operating Procedures, Service Level Agreements and other measures and instruments to support the delivery of high quality services, delivered by the best talent at an optimised price point.
  • Create strong partnerships with security, human resources and legal across the Booking Holdings group

Key skills and experience:

  • A minimum of a BSc, MSc or equivalent, preferably in Technology, Information Systems, or related work experience
  • A minimum of 5-7 years experience with eDiscovery, document review management and multiple eDiscovery platforms
  • Proficient and strong technical skills working with eDiscovery and litigation hold software tools (e.g. Exterro, Relativity, Clearwell, Nuix). Exterro experience preferred, but not essential
  • In-depth understanding of the legal and operational framework of eDiscovery across the stages of the Electronic Discovery Reference Model (EDRM), across various global jurisdictions but specifically in the EU, UK and US
  • Ability to take initiative and deliver appropriate communications to diverse audiences, including Legal, Security, IT and Human resources
  • Comfortable collaborating with external parties for cross-functional eDiscovery projects
  • Proficient and strong technical skills working with information technologies and computer hardware/software specifications in order to utilize specialized forensic tools (EnCase, FTK, BlackBag etc) and procedures to digitally collect, preserve, and examine computer related evidence, preferably in a corporate environment
  • Additional certifications in relevant tools and/or technologies (IACIS, EnCE, CCE)
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken
  • Strong commercial experience in building and managing teams
  • Strong skills in negotiating, relationship building, problem solving, and timely problem escalation
  • Proven ability to independently identify, prioritize, and resolve issues quickly and effectively in a positive and practical manner
  • Ability to manage and deliver on complex eDiscovery projects
  • Strategic thinker with analytical and problem-solving experience
  • Must be a self-starter and have the ability to work with minimal supervision - enjoys creating and implementing new initiatives
  • A passion for getting things done without compromising on attention to detail
