About this role

Introduction

Due to recent expansion in BlackRock Private Markets, a new role is being created for a permanent hire in Budapest to join their Private Markets Tax team. Private Markets Tax is responsible for all tax matters including tax compliance and strategy around BlackRock's Private Markets fund products. The team currently comprises 35 staff in total and is co-led by two managing directors based in New York.

Role description

This is an in-house tax compliance role and is responsible for supporting the global Private Markets tax compliance function across multiple business groups with a focus on EMEA tax jurisdictions. This person will report to a Vice President ("VP"), based out of London, who is responsible for overseeing all EMEA-based tax compliance matters. The role will primarily support this VP, other members of the global Private Markets Tax Team (based in US, EMEA, and APAC), key stakeholders within BlackRock, and liaise with external tax service providers.

Key responsibilities

  • Assist in coordination of tax compliance engagements across multiple tax service providers and tax jurisdictions
  • Coordinate with fund accounting to ensure tax payment instructions from external tax providers and tax assessments are executed by prescribed deadline(s)
  • Manage processing and remediation of tax notices with tax service providers
  • Ensure tax filings, notices received, and other tax documentation are properly organized, documented and stored within enterprise repositories
  • Assist with coordination of Value-Added Tax ("VAT") compliance across Private Markets entities and gain familiarity with general VAT mechanics, various regime rules and their respective requirements
  • Drive tax-related processes and track relevant tax data around legal entity formation(s)
  • Maintain tax compliance tracker(s) and tax filings data to support tax provider engagements and management of their deliverables.
  • Coordinate tax provider billing matters, including: processing of budget requisitions for tax services, submission of vendor invoicing and review of services/amounts invoiced within BlackRock's vendor management system
  • Assist with wider ad-hoc tax compliance matters, including the preparation of tax forms, self-certifications and other tax documentation
  • Assist with tax transformation and technology projects that seek to drive efficiencies and improve tax operations

Skills and experience - required

  • University degree, with a preference in business or related disciplines
  • At least 1-3 years of working experience in an accountancy firm or internal tax function
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications
  • Project management experience
  • Tax operations experience

The following would be advantageous, but are neither required nor expected of candidates:

  • General knowledge and understanding of asset management business and operations
  • General knowledge of tax concepts relevant to European jurisdictions
  • Basic understanding of financial statements or accounting principles
  • Tax technology experience, and an interest in AI-enabled technologies
