About This Role
The Senior Manager of Corporate & Business Development Finance will jointly report to the Head of Corporate FP&A and the Head of M&A and Business Development Finance and will have regular exposure to the Head of FP&A, CFO, and senior leaders across multiple functions. The Senior Manager will provide rigorous analytics for executive level, high visibility projects that combine strategy and finance. Key responsibilities will align to both internal strategic finance efforts; including management of the company’s Strategic Financial Trajectory (SFT) and key support for the economic and structural assessments of in-licensing, collaboration, and M&A opportunities.

Overall responsibilities include:
Business Development Finance
- Develop comprehensive financial models and analyses to evaluate business opportunities, which will include building new models from scratch
- Collect and analyze inputs from Corporate Strategy, R&D, PO&T (Manufacturing), Accounting and other functions
- Foster an environment of high collaboration with business constituents
- Assist with due diligence activities in support of various business development initiatives
- Identify and analyze risk and opportunity considerations and potential impact on valuation and returns
- Perform frequent and complex ad hoc analytical assignments
- Assist in the preparation of memos and presentations for senior leadership review
Corporate Finance
The primary responsibility within Corporate Finance will be to lead Biogen’s Strategic Financial Trajectory (SFT) efforts. Responsibilities include:
- Building and maintaining Biogen’s corporate finance model to project and analyze the impact of marketed and pipeline product performance, R&D portfolio decisions, capital allocation strategy and business development deals on the corporate financial trajectory
- Facilitating the cross functional planning process to compile global financial projections of marketed products and pipeline programs, including developing submission guidance to ensure consistency in assumptions and data accuracy
- Performing company sum-of-the-parts valuation analysis and quantifying BIIB’s projected shareholder value creation under various scenarios
- Communicating to senior management regarding strategic opportunities and critical issues related to the financial trajectory of the company
- Partnering with Corporate Strategy leaders to align the projected financial trajectory with Biogen’s strategic direction and future goals
The Senior Manager will also be responsible for related corporate modeling such as:
- Determining optimal return of excess capital to shareholders (eg share repurchases)
- Assessing historical ROI to inform future investment decisions
- Supporting the Corporate Strategy team in prioritizing portfolio investments
Qualifications
Required Skills
- MBA strongly preferred plus at least 5 years of experience (or 7+ years if no MBA), ideally in investment banking or another Pharm/Biotech company
- Distinctive quantitative and modeling skills
- Practical knowledge of financial theory and valuation methodologies
- Ability to navigate and influence in a matrixed organizational structure
- Attention to detail, yet ability to maintain an “80/20” mindset
- Excellent learning agility
- Comfort with ambiguity
- Ability to work under pressure and within short time constraints
- High sense of urgency with ability to meet tight deadlines and flexibility to adapt to changing priorities
Preferred Skills
- Knowledge of drug development and life sciences is preferred
- Experience with Hyperion
Additional Information
The base salary range for this position is $126,000 to $169,000. Base salary offered is determined though an analytical approach utilizing a combination of factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills & experience, job location, and internal equity.
