About This Role:
As the Pharmaceutical Operations & Technology (PO&T) Risk Management Lead, you will be the pivotal force in establishing and spearheading integrated risk management processes across the spectrum of Biogen’s operations, which include process and analytical development, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain. In this dynamic role, your chief responsibilities will encompass the identification and synthesis of top-tier risks, formulating and overseeing mitigation strategies, and ensuring robust communication with the PO&T leadership. You will be recognized as the linchpin in elevating our technological, quality, and supplier risk frameworks to a level of excellence. Your strategic insights and risk assessments will play a crucial role in fortifying Biogen’s preparedness against potential unforeseen challenges. By integrating standardized risk impact assessments and initiating cross-functional risk initiatives, you will be instrumental in shaping our business continuity and risk management landscapes. Reporting directly to senior leadership, you will fit into our business structure as a guardian of operational integrity and a champion of proactive risk management.

What You’ll Do:

  • Develop and refine methodologies to proactively identify and assess systemic risks across PO&T.
  • Conduct comprehensive synthesis of functional and site risk assessments, presenting findings to the leadership team.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to pinpoint potential risks, vulnerabilities, and devise robust mitigation strategies.
  • Track the implementation and efficacy of risk mitigation plans, recommending adjustments to business unit leaders as necessary.
  • Integrate risk management practices within manufacturing and supply chain operations.
  • Create a collaborative network of functional risk owners and conduct regular reviews of mitigation efforts.
  • Formulate strategies to ensure supply chain continuity and resilience, addressing supplier reliability and inventory management risks.
  • Develop and maintain business continuity plans for manufacturing sites and PO&T functions.
  • Lead and coordinate PO&T’s crisis response efforts, including simulations, post-crisis analysis, and implementation of improvements.
  • Prepare and deliver comprehensive risk management reports and ensure transparent communication with the PO&T leadership team.
  • Maintain meticulous documentation of risk management activities, promoting accountability across all PO&T functions.

Qualifications

Who You Are:
You are a visionary with a masterful grasp of risk management, particularly within the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry. You possess an analytical mindset complemented by strong problem-solving skills. You have the innate ability to distill complex concepts into essential points and communicate them effectively to senior management. Your exceptional organizational skills allow you to manage a multitude of projects seamlessly. As an extraordinary team player, you are adept at both leading and contributing to cross-functional teams. You are no stranger to executive governance forums, and you excel in advancing business process maturity.

Required Skills:

  • Master’s degree in Science, Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 8-10 years of professional experience in an Operations role within the Biotech/Pharmaceutical industry (minimum of 2 years in risk management).
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities with the ability to influence across a matrix organization.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with a track record of making impactful recommendations to senior management.
  • Proven experience in simplifying complex subjects for key decision-making.
  • Ability to thrive in fast-paced environments, with excellent organizational skills to juggle a broad range of concurrent projects and tasks.
  • Strong team player credentials, with experience in leading and participating in cross-functional and managerial teams.
  • Experienced in leading executive governance forums to facilitate decision-making and progress business processes.

Preferred Skills:

  • Advanced understanding of Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) principles and practices.
  • Proficiency in risk assessment tools and methodologies relevant to the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry.
  • Experience in designing and conducting business continuity and crisis response simulations.
