About this role
As Key Account Manager for Rare Diseases (Sales and Hospital Market Access), you will be responsible for identifying patient journeys, facilitating healthcare system access, and developing the market for rare diseases. This role requires a deep understanding of territory dynamics, account strategies, and customer needs to drive market share and achieve targets.
To accomplish this, you will build and maintain strong relationships with physicians, pharmacists, and hospital payers, providing education on rare diseases and addressing access barriers to support informed healthcare decisions. Additionally, you will assess business potential within your region, identify treatment centers, and capitalize on growth opportunities.

Success in this position depends on effective collaboration with marketing, logistics, market access, and medical teams. What You'll Do
- Market & Business Mapping:
- Identify and map business opportunities within the assigned territory, evaluating the number of treatment centers, pathology referral centers, and Key Medical Experts (KMEs) specializing in Rare Diseases.
- Continuously update and refine the understanding of market dynamics to ensure strategic account engagement and resource allocation.
- Patient Journey & Market Development:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive territory strategy to support the identification of patients and streamline their journey within the healthcare system.
- Work proactively to remove barriers to treatment by fostering collaboration with healthcare providers, hospitals, and other key stakeholders.
- Stakeholder Engagement & Relationship Building:
- Establish and maintain meaningful relationships with key decision-makers, physicians, pharmacists, and hospital payers involved in Rare Disease treatment.
- Act as an ambassador for Biogen’s commitment to science, innovation, and patient-centered care, providing education on available therapies and support services.
- Sales Growth & Prioritization:
- Assess and prioritize sales opportunities within the assigned territory to maximize market penetration and business growth.
- Effectively allocate time, resources, and activities to focus on high-potential accounts, ensuring optimal sales performance for commercialized products.
- Strategic Business Planning:
- Develop and execute an annual business plan tailored to the specific needs of the territory, incorporating targeted account goals and measurable objectives.
- Utilize data-driven insights to optimize negotiation strategies and engagement with healthcare professionals (HCPs) and hospital payers.
- Market Access & Competitive Analysis:
- Evaluate patient access opportunities and threats across different stages of the patient journey within key accounts.
- Analyze the purchasing guidelines of health insurers, competitive market actions, and reimbursement pathways to proactively address access challenges.
- Resource Coordination & Multi-Stakeholder Collaboration:
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, facilitating cross-functional collaboration.
- Adapt communication and engagement strategies to address the specific concerns and priorities of different stakeholders, ensuring alignment on business objectives.
- Regulatory & Compliance Adherence:
- Maintain a strong understanding of regulatory requirements, compliance standards, and industry best practices to ensure ethical engagement in all interactions.
- Educate internal and external stakeholders on Rare Disease treatment options while ensuring adherence to Biogen’s legal and compliance frameworks.
- Account & Customer Strategy Development:
- Design and execute individual account plans to enhance engagement with key customers, supporting the development of Rare Disease Centers of Excellence.
- Lead cross-functional efforts to optimize customer interactions, improve access to treatment, and troubleshoot any market-related challenges.
- Data-Driven Decision Making & Reporting:
- Provide strategic insights and recommendations to management regarding key accounts, including hospitals, purchasing groups, and guideline providers.
- Monitor and analyze market trends, stakeholder needs, and treatment adoption patterns to continuously refine commercial and access strategies.
Qualifications
Who you are
You are a hands-on, adaptable professional with expertise in market access, hospital environments, and product launches, ideally within Rare Diseases. Skilled in building strong relationships with healthcare professionals, hospital payers, and key decision-makers, you excel at navigating complex healthcare systems to drive patient access. Your flexibility, ambition, and dedication to patient care position you as a key force in expanding access to innovative therapies.
Required skills
- Relevant university degree, preferably a Master’s in biotech, commercial, or sales, with at least 4 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry in Spain.
- Strong ability to build trust and negotiate with healthcare professionals, hospital payers, and key decision-makers to drive patient access.
- Experience orking in a sales and/or access team that was a part of a multifunctional team to address patient/caregiver needs, ideally in leading cross functional field team
- Prior experience in Rare Diseases or neuromuscular conditions preferred, with the ability to quickly learn and adapt to specialized therapeutic areas.
- Proven ability to assess market data, identify opportunities, and execute strategic plans, ensuring long-term business success.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in Spanish and English, with a high level of integrity and ethical standards.
- Flexible and solution-oriented, with the ability to navigate complex healthcare environments and work effectively in a matrix organization.
- Willingness to spend 80% of the time traveling to engage with stakeholders and implement market access initiatives.
- Highly self-motivated, results-driven, and team-oriented, with a strong ability to motivate, influence, and align teams toward shared goals.
