Job Description

The Senior Director, Marketing Operations leads the strategy, execution, and optimization of key marketing operations functions, ensuring seamless execution, compliance, and efficiency across Biogen’s Commercial organization. This role partners closely with Marketing, Medical, Regulatory, Legal, and Procurement teams to enhance operational effectiveness and drive business impact. The Senior Director plays a critical role in elevating Marketing Operations to a strategic function, driving alignment with commercial objectives, business priorities, and financial stewardship.

This role oversees Content Approval & Promotional Review, managing the Promotional Review Committees (PRCs)includes chairing and facilitating Executive Review Committee meetings, leading early strategic collaboration on content planning, claims development, and initiative execution, ensuring smooth decision-making and timely approvals. The Senior Director also oversees expedited reviews, editorial and proofreading, KPI adherence, and executive-level reporting to track performance and process efficiency.

Beyond content approval, the Senior Director leads Print, Fulfillment & Inventory Management, optimizing the production, storage, and distribution of promotional materials, Agency Management, overseeing agency selection with business partners, Veeva Vault PromoMats Administration, onboarding, and performance management, and Speaker Program Operations, Meetings & Congresses, and Conventions Management, ensuring compliance while maximizing engagement and commercial impact.

This role drives continuous process improvement, resource allocation, and strategic planning to position Marketing Operations as a key business partner to brand teams. The Senior Director provides executive insights, tracks performance metrics, and proactively identifies opportunities to enhance marketing execution and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic & Functional Leadership

  • Serve as a strategic partner to brand teams, ensuring Marketing Operations aligns with Commercial objectives and enhances executional effectiveness.
  • Develop and manage a business plan for Marketing Operations, ensuring clear alignment with Biogen’s strategic priorities.
  • Lead end-to-end operational processes, ensuring efficiency, scalability, and compliance across all marketing execution functions.
  • Oversee the allocation of headcount and financial resources within Marketing Operations to support commercial needs effectively.
  • Provide strategic and operational guidance to the Brand BU Marketing leads, supporting sales and marketing planning.
  • Partner closely with Procurement to optimize financial management of marketing operations, including agency partnerships and promotional materials.
  • Continuously assess and improve business processes, driving best practices and implementing enhancements to maximize efficiency.

Content Approval & Promotional Review Process

  • Lead the Promotional Review Committees (PRC’s) a timely and high-quality promotional review process.
  • Act as the primary liaison between brand teams and MLR stakeholders, optimizing the content approval process and ensuring clear communication and alignment.
  • Proactively manage review timelines, ensuring minimal escalations and adherence to regulatory and compliance standards.
  • Oversee expedited reviews, addressing appropriateness and ensuring rapid and compliant approvals for urgent content needs.
  • Partner with stakeholders to optimize the claims library and reference management, supporting content consistency and compliance.
  • Develop and oversee training programs for PRC stakeholders, ensuring teams are aligned on best practices and evolving regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee Veeva Vault PromoMats administration, consistently assessing the need for enhancements, ensuring a positive user experience and the ability to optimize reporting and KPIs

Agency Management

  • Direct and oversee Agency Management Operations, including agency selection, onboarding, performance tracking, and brand team training on agency engagement best practices.
  • Ensure contract and budget alignment, optimizing spend efficiency and vendor performance.
  • Establish KPIs and performance metrics for agencies, ensuring high-quality deliverables and alignment with commercial goals.

Speaker Programs, Meetings & Congresses

  • Oversee Speaker Program Operations, ensuring seamless execution and compliance with internal policies and industry regulations.
  • Lead Meetings & Congresses strategy, managing logistics, execution, and overall commercial impact of key events.
  • Implement continuous improvements and SOP enhancements for event management, ensuring operational excellence and high engagement.

Qualifications

Required Skills

  • 10+ years of pharmaceutical experience, with at least 6+ years in marketing operations, promotional review, medical, legal, regulatory, or commercial execution.
  • Deep expertise in promotional content review, MLR process management, and regulatory compliance.
  • Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing teams across multiple marketing operations functions.
  • Strong business acumen with experience translating strategic priorities into operational execution.
  • Experience managing agency partnerships, including selection, onboarding, and performance oversight.
  • Prior experience overseeing speaker programs, meetings, and congresses within a commercial function.
  • Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment.
  • Experience in business process optimization, financial oversight, and procurement collaboration.
  • Demonstrated cross-functional leadership experience, driving operational improvements and strategic alignment.

Additional Information

The base salary range for this position is $219,000 – $302,000. Base salary offered is determined though an analytical approach utilizing a combination of factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills & experience, job location,
and internal equity.  

Regular employees are eligible to receive both short term and long-term

incentives, including cash bonus and equity incentive opportunities, designed
to reward recent achievements and recognize your future potential based on
individual, business unit and company performance.
