About This Role
As the Compliance Officer for LATAM, you'll be essential in fostering a culture of integrity and adherence to Biogen's Code of Conduct. This role places you on the local leadership teams where you'll spearhead compliance initiatives and provide expert advice on ethics and regulatory matters. You will be responsible for the development and execution of a proactive compliance program, ensuring that our Affiliates continually enhance their processes to manage risks effectively. This role is critical in maintaining our reputation for world-class controls that are not only effective but also easily understood and applied. In this strategic position, you will not only manage and assess risks but also shape sustainable business strategies and influence the external environment by setting industry-wide ethical standards. Integrated into the structure of the business, you report directly to the Head of Compliance, International, with a dotted line to the Country Managers of the respective Affiliate(s).

What You’ll Do:

  • Design and execute a compliance strategic plan that aligns with both Global Corporate Compliance strategy and local needs.
  • Maintain well-organized systems and records for management decisions, policies, trainings, and enforcement actions.
  • Provide expert advice on compliance matters to the business, ensuring ethical interactions across all levels.
  • Continuously monitor and enhance the effectiveness of policies, procedures, and controls.
  • Engage leadership teams to promote integrity and ethical business conduct.
  • Champion a culture of transparency and integrity within the organization.
  • Conduct comprehensive risk assessments to prioritize resources and activities.
  • Implement robust monitoring plans and communicate results to key stakeholders.
  • Enforce policies and ensure timely reporting of misconduct.
  • Guide leadership on corrective actions and maintain consistent standards organization-wide.
  • Stay abreast of compliance trends and engage in industry associations to uphold Biogen's ethical standards.
  • Ensure internal and external compliance with legal and ethical standards.
  • Report safety and quality-related information concerning Biogen products as per company rules.

Who You Are
You are a seasoned professional with a firm grasp on compliance matters within the life sciences industry. Your experience has honed your ability to influence without disruption and communicate complex issues clearly. You possess strong learning agility, adapting your extensive knowledge to new challenges with ease. Your ability to work effectively in a matrix organization and lead cross-functional teams underscores your collaborative spirit. Strategic planning and project management are among your strengths, and you effortlessly prioritize tasks in a dynamic environment. You are decisive, even when faced with ambiguity, and your problem-solving skills ensure you can swiftly identify and address compliance issues.

This role is based in Mexico City covering our 2 Latin America regions: Latin America North (Mexico and Colombia) and Latin America South (Argentina, Chile, and Uruguay)

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree in law, accounting, or business administration is highly desired.
  • Minimum of 8 years in compliance, including 5 years in direct compliance roles.
  • Additional experience in governance areas such as Legal, Finance, Quality, internal controls, or audit.
  • At least 5 years of experience in the life sciences industry. Preference will be given to those with compliance experience in pharma/biotech industry.
  • Influential leadership with a knack for unlocking problems.
  • Proficient communication and presentation skills for diverse audiences.
  • Quick identification and synthesis of compliance issues and impacts.
  • Project management and strategic planning expertise.
  • Proficiency in Windows Office package for policy design, presentations, and control databases.
  • Independent work ethic with the ability to manage multiple demands.
  • Fluent in Spanish and English.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in leading complex investigations and maintaining confidentiality.
  • Advanced knowledge of local legal and regulatory risk landscapes in LATAM.
