Job Description Summary

Responsible for providing subject matter expert support for SAP scheduling systems: Through daily interaction with site departments, other BD plants, corporate planners and vendors, embecta, coordinates timely processing of forecasts for sterile product into demand orders. Monitors scheduled delivery of demand orders and resolves problems as required with a primary focus on yearly and quarterly goal achievement. Performs receipt transactions of products sent to the department for sterilization, then converts transactions into demand orders.

Key member of the sterilization team: Coordinates with the Dosimetry Technician finite scheduling of product through the sterilizer. Primary player in the performance of validations and calibrations supporting sterilization operations. Act as the primary backup for dosimetry laboratory functions. Determine and record the measured dose results to support product release determination by the microbiologist. Provides essential work direction, guidance, and training to department personnel. This job must be performed with diligence and attention to detail because of the significant safety and quality risks inherent to the position. Through development, this will be a 'licensed' radiation worker position.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Planning: Evaluate the results of weekly MRP runs to confirm sufficient capacity is available to process the forecast product volumes during the required time frame. Resolve problems and/or inform management as appropriate.
  • Perform daily product receipt transactions and production scheduling.
  • Track and evaluate compliance to schedule performance statistics. Recommend and implement improvements.
  • Maintain Bills of Materials and Routings, and other databases as required in SAP.
  • Coordinate actions required for product changes, additions, deletions, and maintain relevant master data essential to SAP scheduling. (Quality documents, database, validations, programming, packaging specifications, etc.)
  • Communicate and maintain a favorable rapport with corporate planners, manufacturing sites, department and site personnel, and vendors necessary to accomplish departmental objectives.
  • Primary back up for the Dosimetry Technician for all dosimetry laboratory functions.
  • Train new department personnel on required SAP transactions.
  • Able to schedule and accommodate research loop requests within sterilizer capacity and available run time.
  • Communicate daily events, project milestones, etc. to appropriate department/site personnel.
  • Provide basic technical training and support to four sterilization work teams as required in the areas of ESS and plant policies and procedures, and other areas of administrative support.
  • Coordinate the departmental calibration program.
  • Maintain records and correspondence required by the departmental radioactive materials license.
  • Identify and train a backup for all critical daily activities.
  • Limited travel as required.
  • Other tasks/projects, duties as assigned
  • Obey all company policies, standards, and rules, including but not limited to: Safety policies and rules (including lockout procedures); Quality policies and rules.
  • Must maintain regular punctual attendance.

Education:

  • High School diploma; knowledgeable in mathematics (algebra and basic statistics)
  • Four (4) year degree in Mathematics, Science or Engineering, preferred.

Experience:

  • One to three (1-3) years' experience in production related planning and scheduling preferred.
  • Prior SAP experience strongly preferred.
  • Radiation/sterilization experience, preferred.
  • Ability to create spreadsheets in Excel and manipulate data for use, required.
  • Understanding of advanced functions in Excel, preferred.
  • Understanding of all relevant production equipment, preferred.
  • Experience with material movements, general plant operations, preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong verbal, written, analytical, persuasion and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to problem solve and implement corrective actions.
  • Ability to effectively use, and train others to use, computer based information systems.
  • Must be able to speak, read and write English
  • Computer skills (SAP, Excel, PowerPoint, Word preferred) - intermediate.
  • Effective team player
  • Achieves results: detail oriented while working on multiple projects
  • Effective interpersonal skills working with internal and external customers
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Working knowledge of dosimetry laboratory functions.
  • Working knowledge of the product development process and related documentation requirements
  • Must be able to operate the research loop and complete related documentation
  • Must complete in-house training and testing to become a 'Licensed Irradiator Operator' within four months of assuming this position

Supervision:

  • Provides leadership, direction and supervision for non-exempt Associates, including writing performance reviews, 2 associates.

Work Environment (if applicable):

  • No air-conditioning in parts of sterilization/warehouse area.
  • May have intermittent exposure to chemicals.
  • Degree of exposure to dust, dirt, heat, fumes, noise, vibration and chemicals.
  • When working outside, any & all physical elements of weather & temperature may be present. Inside, noise is the major distraction.
  • Safety glasses, safety shoes and high visibility gear must be worn when in the warehouse; and
  • Some physical exertion, including lifting, may be required.
