Job Description Summary

The Product Owner (m/f/d) serves as a subject matter expert in their field with depth and breadth of experience, knowledge and skills.

The three primary responsibilities of the product owner will be managing and prioritizing the product backlog in partnership with their Software Delivery Leader, translating product managers' strategies to development requirements, stories, tasks, and supporting the holistic success of instruments in their portfolio. To accomplish this, the PO will work with a cross-functional team to define and document requirements and acceptance criteria on a daily basis; work with beta customers to test and validate new releases; liaison with the Service team to ensure that escalations and defects are triaged, prioritized, and remediated; collaborate with Product Managers and Software Delivery Leaders to manage release coordination activities and partner for value delivery.

In recent years, BD's Medication Management Solutions (MMS) business unit has expanded into the high-growth pharmacy automation space and is now one of the global leaders in pharmacy automation. The Pharmacy Automation platform positions BD to offer our pharmacy customers a more comprehensive set of thoughtful, connected care technologies as they expand care to new settings, centralize their pharmacy operations and own the charge in addressing some of the biggest challenges facing the industry, including health care worker burnout and the global clinician shortage. BD's Pharmacy Automation portfolio covers a wide range of hardware and software technologies from storage and dispensing robots, vision solutions, pouch packagers, vial filling systems, blister card production systems as well as central fill solutions and enterprise pharmacy management software solutions. We are searching for a Product Owner to join our MMS Pharmacy Automation team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create, order, and manage the backlog of software features, user stories, and product defects to ensure that the work defined for the team is meaningful to the customer, yet realistic and attainable for the development teams. Balance features innovation, new product development, and sustaining activity via definition and backlog prioritization in collaboration with cross-functional team. Considers risk factors that could affect scope, schedule, and/or resources and inform adequate contingency plans for potential issues.
  • Manage software requirement engineering process, in partnership with Systems Engineering, throughout the development life cycle, eliciting, documenting, analyzing, and harmonizing functional and non-functional requirements.
  • Support sprint planning and reviews, development estimation, and incremental feature delivery in tight collaboration with Customers, Product Managers, Engineering, and Quality.
  • Play an active role in mitigating impediments impacting successful team completion of Release/Sprint Goals - governance for change management and lead adjustments to plan
  • Facilitate scoping of software requirements to align between product roadmaps and deliverables.
  • Support SW Quality in test planning by identifying testability requirements and supporting review of test cases and defects, as needed.
  • Lead verification and validation/beta launch activities for their cross-functional project team including: protocol writing, execution, and reporting. Support beta launch activities including site selection criteria, validation testing, definition for success, and outcome documentation.
  • Supports hand-over of design to manufacturing and service.
  • May include some third line support to diagnose and resolve production issues, assist teams in removing obstacles, and ensuring overall success of product deliverables.
  • Execute work within company processes and procedures including engineering tools (requirement management, escalation management, etc), Design Controls, Product Lifecycle Management, Configuration Management, Phase Reviews.
  • Act as a key contributor in a complex environment, and work independently with minimal guidance.
  • Contribute to Intellectual Property generation that protects the portfolio and establishes an offensive market position.
  • Share expertise with others.
  • Follow our competitors and the industry; keep abreast with Agile/Scrum standard processes and new trends

Skills and Experience

  • Must have a bachelor's degree.
  • B.S.: 3+ years of experience in technical area
  • M.S.:1+ years of experience in technical area
  • Ph.D.: 0+ years of experience in technical area
  • In-depth knowledge of Agile process and principles; experience working in Lean/Agile software development teams; experience operating within design control.
  • Experience in or ability to leverage Product Management and Development tools such as Azure Dev Ops, Aha!, Jira or equivalent
  • Outstanding communication, presentation, and leadership skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Sharp analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Creative thinker with a vision
  • Attention to detail
  • Domain experience in Pharmacy or Health care is a plus.

This position may require up to 20% domestic/international travel. This position is a hybrid role, requiring 4 days/week in office and allowing up 1 days/week remote work.

According to the collective bargain agreement the minimum annual salary for this position is EUR 53.802 p.a.for 38,5 hours/week (IT KV, ST1, Regelstufe). Based on individual skills and experience, we offer appropriate additional payment.
