Job Description Summary

As a Molding engineer you are responsible to plan, coordinate and carry out projects in molding manufacturing. Validate new and transfer molds and auxiliary equipment by establishing process parameters, implementing PM plans, training production associates and supporting the establishment of required materials and operations documents.

Support established processes by working with operations personnel to diagnose issues using advanced troubleshooting techniques for injection molding. Drive continuous improvement projects to reduce part costs by improving productivity, tooling and reducing scrap. Work to drive OEE improvements through RCA and Kaizen.

Job Summary:
In this role you will be responsible for managing the molding process to produce medical device components. This position is responsible for developing and maintaining processes related to injection molding, compression molding, extrusion blow molding, liquid silicone rubber (LSR) or other polymers used in the manufacture of single use medical devices. You will work closely with suppliers on process development, validation and transfers as well as coordinating activities within the manufacturing facility.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop new molding processes using various materials such as polypropylene, polycarbonate, acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), LSR or other polymers.
  • Responsible for mold design including part layouts, tool geometry, gate locations, ejector pins, cooling lines/channels, and venting systems.
  • Ensures that all molds are built to specifications and function properly.
  • Troubleshoots problems with molds, machines, processes and raw materials to determine solutions.
  • Conducts tests and experiments on molded parts to ensure they meet product requirements.
  • Manages projects involving process improvements, cost reductions, yield improvements, quality improvements, or other related tasks.
  • Coordinates activities within the manufacturing plant to ensure timely completion of production runs.
  • Travels to supplier sites to coordinate project efforts, provide technical expertise, and facilitate communication between departments.
  • Leads cross functional teams in problem solving, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement projects.
  • Participates in change control and FMEA reviews.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering required; mechanical preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years experience in injection molding,
  • Experience in medical device industry preferred.
  • Strong understanding of thermoplastic injection molding process.
  • Ability to understand complex drawings, schematics, and written procedures.
  • Knowledge of plastic materials, their properties, and applications.
  • Familiarity with process capability and statistical process control methods.
  • Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) software.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to collaborate effectively across multiple functions.
  • Ability to manage time and priorities to meet deadlines.
