Job Summary
The IP Legal Specialist will provide support to the Patent Department of BD. This position reports directly to the Manager, Global Patents. The role involves assisting patent attorneys in managing prosecution of patent applications worldwide as well as providing administrative support for department operations.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting patent attorneys with prosecution of patent applications before the United States Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) and foreign patent offices;
  • Drafting correspondence with foreign patent offices and counsel related to foreign prosecution matters;
  • Maintenance of internal databases;
  • Creating spreadsheets and preparing charts for tracking purposes;
  • Reviewing documents for quality assurance;
  • Providing general administrative support to Patent Department staff;
  • Communicating effectively with other departments and outside counsel;
  • Working on special projects as assigned.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required
  • Paralegal Certification preferred but not required

Qualifications

  • 3 years of relevant IP work experience in a law firm or in-house required
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Strong organization skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally both verbally and in writing
  • Self-motivated and resourceful
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact with all levels within the company
