Position Overview

Autodesk's Platform Services and Enabling Technologies Experience Design team creates experiences for the platform capabilities that support all Autodesk products. We are seeking a Principal Experience Designer to focus on our Developer Enablement ecosystem, enabling both internal and external developers to effectively build desktop and cloud services serving all of our customer segments. We care about the thoughtful design of frameworks, systems, workflows, and UI components that can be utilized by teams across the organization.

This role will be the lead designer for strategic initiatives which serve all of Autodesk's developers and product lines. You will be working with multiple teams in different organizations to ensure cohesive experiences across our ecosystem, sharing a common goal of customer-centricity, connected experiences across our products, and high quality of work. You will display a strategic mindset, critical thinking, and a thoughtful approach to organization, collaboration, and execution on behalf of the customer.

Responsibilities

  • Lead experience design initiatives and help set strategy by evaluating and identifying the intersection of business needs, customer needs, and technical opportunities. Partner closely with product management and engineering to translate our goals into unique platform experiences
  • Plan and facilitate design-thinking exercises to break through organizational silos and collaboratively solve complex design challenges
  • Visualize and prototype intended solutions at various levels of fidelity, from high-level wireframes or mock-ups to conceptual presentations to highly technical documents and diagrams
  • Plan and conduct customer research activities and quantitative testing throughout the project lifecycle, including collaborative sessions with customers and development partners to validate designs and make iterative improvements
  • Demonstrate thought leadership by engaging with designers throughout the company and beyond to share best practices and promote collaboration
  • Demonstrated experience in leading cross-functional teams in problem definition and analysis, understanding customer workflows, and creating prototypes and designs that solve customer problems
  • Excellent visual and verbal communication skills with the ability to distill complex ideas, and large amounts of data and viewpoints, to their essence

Minimum Qualifications

  • 8+ years of related professional user experience design and customer research experience
  • Ability to build credibility, trust, and authority across a network of peers, stakeholders, and teammates
  • Expert in UI and human-centered design principles, with extensive knowledge and experience applying various techniques throughout the design process
  • Ability to customize or evolve design processes to fit project needs, including larger and more complex projects
  • Capability to promote participation, listening, and alignment and broad engagement in meetings
  • Experience in mentoring other UX designers

Salary transparency

Salary is one part of Autodesk's competitive compensation package. For U.S.-based roles, we expect a starting base salary between $133,300 and $215,600. Offers are based on the candidate's experience and geographic location, and may exceed this range. In addition to base salaries, we also have a significant emphasis on annual cash bonuses, commissions for sales roles, stock grants, and a comprehensive benefits package.

Salary is one part of Autodesk's competitive compensation package. For Canada-BC based roles, we expect a starting base salary between $112,000 and $154,000. Offers are based on the candidate's experience and geographic location, and may exceed this range. In addition to base salaries, we also have a significant emphasis on annual cash bonuses, commissions for sales roles, stock grants, and a comprehensive benefits package.
