Construction Claims Business Analyst

Key Functions:


  • Be a resource to provide claim assessments for underwriting business decision: New and renewal business considerations

  • Work alongside UW leadership to help develop new business growth areas based upon developments in legal landscape around the country

  • Assist with contractual review and/or the creation of riders/contracts for UW with the help of Claims/Legal

  • Perform claims spot audits on specific areas of UW interest

  • Accountability for meeting Underwriting deadlines

  • Provide support to claim adjusters by securing insured or underwriting information

  • Help evaluate loss development potential to gauge business future results

  • Act as a liaison with the claims department

  • Provide claim expertise regarding construction risk exposure improvement/trending: employee injury, subcontractor, completed operation and construction defect

  • Provide feedback/advice to the business unit regarding claim observations, account characteristics, loss trends, exposure analysis, etc.

  • Review claims data as representative of the business units with a focus to improve business results


  • NOTE: The position does not have authority to conduct claim investigations, including, but not limited to, interviewing witnesses, taking statements from insured, nor communicating with counsel absent specific approval of claims management.

    Job Description:

    The Construction Business Analyst will work with Underwriters, claims adjuster, producers and insureds as a member of the Argo Construction business unit. He/she will be responsible to improve the underwriting partnership with claims He/she will provide assistance and advice to the business units on how claims are progressing, developing and provide opinions on how business will be affected, or guidelines adjusted . The individual will interpret claim data analytics to provide observations and business advice to enhance pricing and profitability. As a member of the business unit the individual will be empowered to utilize their claims expertise to be a consultant and provide business advice from a claim's perspective. The individual will have no claim authority, nor the ability to alter claim department decisions or processes.

    The Construction Business Analyst will be aligned with the Argo Construction unit which provides General Liability and supported excess to contractors. This allows the Analyst to build and maintain strong knowledge of and working relationships with the underwriting to be responsible for the profit, growth, and retention of business.

    Candidates for this Claims business analyst will be considered regardless of their geographic location.

    Major Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Conduct claims reviews to understand development potential and loss trending.

    • Provide feedback to the business unit on how appetite or underwriting guidelines adjustment can be made from an underwriting perspective to enhance business results

    • Participate in product line reviews to assess business results

    • Help draft and amend endorsements to keep current with venue rulings and court decisions

    • Develop and execute partnership improvements items only with the specific agreement of claims management

    • Provide support to renewal underwriters on insured's renewing with losses


    Business Skills and Competencies:

    • General Liability underwriting and/or claim handling experience.

    • Demonstrated knowledge in understanding coverage matters.

    • A strong understanding of Argo Construction appetite and forms

    • Exceptional business and financial acumen including the methods to assess account profitability.

    • Exceptional verbal/written communication and presentation skills

    • Proven ability to develop and enhance relationships and collaborate with internal and external customers at all levels.

    • Strong strategic influence and collaboration skills.

    • Demonstrated ability to independently access a wide range of data and information and develop recommendations in support of business strategies.

    • Demonstrated ability to be decisive when confronted with complex scenarios that require an appropriate response time.

    • Ability to adapt and embrace change and new challenges.


    Education and Experience required:
    - Bachelor's degree required. Minimum of 3+ years of underwriting or claim experience required.
