The Sports screen in the AppleTV app gives customers immediate access to a wide array of live and scheduled sports events, including Major League Soccer with MLS Season Pass, and Friday Night Baseball. Subscribers can also turn on My Sports to follow their favorite teams-get notified about upcoming events, see live scores, and go directly to games from Up Next. My Sports also lets customers follow their teams across Apple News and other Apple apps on their iPhone or iPad. The ASE Live Stream Engineering team is looking for a Live Stream Reliability Engineer. Our team powers live streaming experiences in the AppleTV app on Apple platforms and 3rd Party devices. You will contribute to the design and implementation of features, tools, and processes to ensure operational and engineering excellence in delivering live streaming events on the platform. Being a domain expert for live content acquisition, encoding, and delivery, you will drive investigations into any technical issues with the acquisition, ingest, encoding, and deliver. Description
You will work cross-functionally with internal teams to drive new features and processes. Interface with vendors on proof-of-concept evaluations and issue resolution. In this role, the incumbent will also support event-operations teams on live-streaming services and assist in broadcast transmission check-ins and validations for live events. This role is responsible for setup and maintaining live encoding workflows. You will also work with client teams to ensure features are performing as encouraged across devices. You will be challenged to diagnose and troubleshoot live video delivery issues with urgency. This role will also work with support teams to craft issue communication with leadership. Troubleshoot complex partner and vendor integrations. Creating, maintaining and executing playbooks, RCAs, and integration specifications.
- 3+ years experience
- Experience with supporting end to end live event streaming experiences
- Experience working with live HLS streaming and DRM services
- Strong understanding of broadcast transport technologies
- Familiar with livestream ad-insertion technologies
- Comfortable with command line tools (chmod, curl, grep, ssh, scp)
- Experience working with observability tools (Grafana, Kibana, DataDog)
- Regular in-person after-hours, weekend and holiday support are key requirements of this role
Preferred Qualifications
- Some scripting experience (Python, Bash)
- Familiar with data interchange formats (XML, JSON)
- Familiar with RESTful API utilization and debugging
- Familiar with SCTE-35/104 and SCTE-224/ESNI
- Experience analyzing system logs
- BS/BA in Video/Broadcast Engineering or equivalent.
Pay & Benefits
- At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $135,400 and $250,600, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
