The Instrumentation Design Team in the Hardware Test Engineering Group has an immediate opening for a Hardware Design Engineer. Our team is responsible for designing and enabling performant test solutions to ensure the best quality of Apple products through innovation. As a key technical contributor, you will lead the design of mission critical test instruments for our next generation products. Description
As a Hardware Design Engineer, you will be designing, prototyping, building, and validating instrumentation for high volume manufacturing test throughout all NPI phases until mass production. The role requires collaborating effectively with cross functional partners including system EE, SI, software diags and mechanical teams, to define, implement and validate test instruments for Apple products. This includes the following: * Propose, negotiate, and design EE solutions to achieve functional and performance objectives * Design and schematic capture of digital and analog electrical circuits and systems * Lead and review PCB layouts * Bring up and validate the instrumentation designs * Collaborate with deployment teams to analyze and debug issues during factory integration, guarantee the success of the solutions factory intercepts.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering
- Solid EE fundamentals, work level knowledge and experience with common communication bus protocols(I2C, SPI, UART)
- Knowledge of high speed circuit design
- Working level knowledge of embedded C
- Solid understanding in signal/power integrity concepts and best practices including transmission line theory
- Experience with schematic capture and constraint-driven PCB layout design using Cadence tools or similar
- Hands-on hardware bringup, functional validation, and debugging experience using common EE test equipment (i.e oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer, logic analyzer, DMM, power supplies and electronic loads).
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's or PhD Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering
- 2+ Years of experience designing hardware for high volume manufacturing instruments
- Familiarity or proficiency in Cadence Allegro System Capture
- Design experience with STM32 and modern Altera FPGA
- Knowledge and experience with high speed bus protocols: USB2/3/4, DisplayPort, HDMI, PCIE, Thunderbolt
- Passion to take on new challenges, learn new skills, and continually develop by staying open minded and curious. Strong sense of project ownership/accountability, with the ability to comprehensively handle tasks from start to finish independently.
