Description

Our team wants an experienced mechanical engineer with curiosity and solid mechanics background to determine suitability of new display technologies, and you will have a wide range of responsibilities in assessing, modeling, and crafting technologies for use in Apple products. We are looking for an engineer to act as a focal point among multiple, world-class cross-functional teams and suppliers to identify open issues, drive them to closure, and deliver mechanically robust displays. The right engineer will assess the mechanical performance of display technologies, across the range of products and systems sold by Apple. You will characterize and model display mechanical performance and improving properties to meet Apple product needs. Then, you will work with suppliers to characterize and improve display mechanical performance. You will support novel display technology development by multiple groups within Apple and work with Apple engineers to assess success in pilot-level and mass-produced products, including reliability. You will develop Apple Intellectual Property in areas of design and implementation and run schedules and support multi-functional engineering efforts. This role also requires international travel (5~10%, primarily Asia).

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent with a minimum of 3 years of experience.
  • Experience with the mechanics of materials, fracture mechanics, thin film mechanics, adhesion, viscoelasticity, or hyper-elasticity.
  • Experience in mechanical characterization tools, such as strain gauges or other sensor technology.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in mechanical engineering, materials science, or a closely-allied field.
  • Experience with EE fundamentals of data acquisition systems for sensor measurement.
  • Knowledge of multi-physics such as material science and thermal.
  • Knowledge of FEA fundamentals and experience in software Abaqus and/or Ansys.
  • Knowledge and experience in mechanical design, and familiarity with MCAD tools, such as NX or Solidworks.
  • Knowledge of microelectronics, flexible electronics or display technologies.
  • Experience in fast prototyping and failure analysis.
  • Experience with large data set analysis using JMP, MATLAB, or Minitab .
  • Excellent prioritization, cross-functional collaboration, and written & verbal communication.
  • High energy personality with a real passion for learning and attention to detail.
  • Experience leading technical projects into qualification and production.
  • Ability to approach problem solving flexibly, cut through ambiguity; use data and prior experience to make and own the hard calls.
  • Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) knowledge.

Pay & Benefits

    At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $143,100 and $264,200, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
