At Apple's Camera Algorithm team we are looking for extraordinary algorithm engineers to work on the image capture and processing/rendering algorithms that serve all Apple product cameras! As part of the team, you will work on core camera/ISP/Machine learning technologies based on Apple crafted image signal processing pipeline and HW components, such as the Apple Neural Engine. Here you will have the chance to define the way the Apple camera captures, processes, and renders outstanding still image and video quality. Our close-knit team champions an environment of product innovation, rapid product iteration, and collaboration, at both team and multi-functional levels, granting you a liberating amount of autonomy. We work closely with various teams, like the Silicon Design, Camera HW/SW, and QA. Our team environment is dynamic, fast-paced and requires a self-starter attitude.

Description

In this algorithm engineer role, you will be actively involved in supporting and delivering various products, encompassing tasks such as camera color characterization, programming and validation of ISP blocks, diagnosing color-related issues, and fine parameter tuning. Additionally, you will be tasked with developing new algorithms to solve the existing challenges or to propose innovative applications for future products. You'll partner with various camera technology teams to streamline algorithm deployment, such as accelerating algorithms in silicon with SOC architecture team, improving new camera components with HW team, devising new measurement methodologies with factory team, or prototyping your work with camera simulation team. The perfect candidate is hard-working, adept at problem-solving, and quick to grasp new concepts. You are comfortable working in a dynamic multi-functional environment, quick to establish relationships and collaborated with many dedicated engineers to build high-quality features in Apple products.

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS and a minimum of 3 years relevant industry experience
  • Work experience in camera sensor color characterization and color image processing pipeline, including auto white balance, camera color conversion and color management
  • Skilled in ISP algorithm development and capable of independently managing product delivery from problem definition to implementation
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as MATLAB, Python, C/C++, or similar

Preferred Qualifications

  • Design, refine, and optimize algorithms for color processing in ISP pipelines, focusing on areas such as auto white balance, color correction, and color space conversion
  • Implement and refine color management techniques to ensure accurate color reproduction across various images/videos/devices
  • Proficiency in self-driving project development, spanning from problem identification to concept validation and engineering implementation, applying tools such as mathematical modeling, statistical analysis, image processing techniques, and machine learning
  • Expertise in identifying diverse color issues within intricate ISP systems and in precision tuning of parameters to achieve optimal image quality
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in color science, image processing, and machine learning techniques, and apply them to improve existing algorithms and develop new solutions
  • Experience with HDR imaging and advanced computational photography techniques is beneficial
  • Self driven and passionate for color image quality excellence
  • Excellent writing & verbal communication skills, along with strong collaborative abilities

Pay & Benefits

    At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $143,100 and $264,200, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
