Our team is growing and we are actively looking to hire a Legal Assistant for our Calgary, Alberta office. The Legal Assistant is accountable for supporting the achievement of Allstate's short and long term Mission, Vision and strategic objectives by supporting all in-house lawyers and staff members to provide efficient and cost effective legal advice and support to ACG business units.

Accountabilities:
- Sort, distribute and process incoming & outgoing mail, e-mail and faxes, including saving to system
- Draft correspondence
- Answer phone calls
- Create and route general interoffice communications
- Schedule events and appointments, manage calendars and files related to events and create communication and reminders
- Photocopy or scans materials as requested
- Manage, organize and stores file information
- Assist lawyer with management of file materials and reminder system
- Prepare opening documents and closing documents on files
- Assist with preparing simple pleadings, court documents, mediation and JDR briefs
- Other duties and special projects as assigned
- Regular, predictable attendance is an essential function of this job
Qualifications:
- College Degree Preferred
- Minimum 3 - 5 years' experience as an Assistant
- Insurance defence experience is an asset
- Ability to work in a highly structured environment, on an independent basis
- Good communication skills, including ability to maintain a courteous and professional demeanor with clients, service providers, insureds, fellow employees and other counsel and their support staff
- Ability to create professional, error free documents utilizing good grammar, spelling and format skills, including completing and sending form letters
- Understanding and ability to use and operate within the Rules of Civil Procedure and
- Knowledge of software applications including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Internet searches, Power Point and other, web-based applications
