Job Description
The Financial Reporting Analyst prepares and files complete and accurate periodic audited financial statements and regulatory filings in a timely manner. Synthesizes, monitors, analyzes, and summarizes financial results of moderate complexity used in leadership decision-making. Applies International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and reconciles differences for U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP) purposes. Provides financial reporting and operations expertise for projects. Investigates and recommends enhancements to the reporting process to improve efficiency.

Key Responsibilities
- Prepares monthly financial statements, records journal entries, and ensures that all financial information is captured accurately to to analyze, monitor, and summarize financial results for the leadership team.
- Performs detailed account reconciliations and resolves discrepancies to ensure information is complete and all accounts balance.
- Prepares and files timely and accurate quarterly and annual regulatory financial statements of moderate scope and complexity with note disclosures for ACG entities.
- Provides information and responds to requests from internal and external auditors.
- Analyzes financial statements to evaluate results against targets and previous years.
- Reconciles differences between IFRS and US GAAP.
- Prepares filings (e.g. Office of the Superintendant of Financial Institutions (OSFI), General Insurance Statistical Agency (GISA), Facility Association (FA), Statistics Canada, etc.) for regulatory bodies in collaboration with functional and cross-functional teams.
- Analyzes financial statements to evaluate results against targets and previous years.
- Resolves conflicting data between disparate sources to ensoure accurate information is reported in the financial statements.
- Provides expertise in financial reporting and operations for projects.
- Monitors current accounting treatment to ensure compliance with standards and regulatory requirements.
- Compiles data from internal and external sources and recommends process enhancements to improve efficiency.
- Creates and improves documentation (e.g. new information templates, tracking tools, databases, etc.) and information retrieval processes.
- Researches and remains abreast of current and future developments in legal and regulatory requirements.
- Assists in mentoring and training new or less experienced staff.
Qualifications
- Requires 1-3+ years of related experience in financial analysis and reporting.
- Experience complying with accounting standards (e.g. IFRS, US GAAP), and best practices.
- Proficiency in System Applications and Products (SAP) or similar accounting software
- MS Office Suite with advanced Excel (e.g. VLOOKUP, INDEX, pivot tables, etc.).
- Interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Project coordination, prioritization, and time management skills with attention to detail in a fast-paced environment with tight timelines.
Education
- Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Business, Finance, or Accounting.
- A Chartered Professional Accounting designation (CPA), working towards completion, or equivalent experience.
- Experience with legal and regulatory compliance requirements for Property & Casualty Insurance is an asset.
- Proficiency in PowerBI and/or Tableau is an asset.
- Experience with MS Analysis for Office is an advantage.
- Experience with MS Excel macros is an asset.
