Alion is seeking an RF Engineer, Lead: Real-Time Spectrum Operations (RTSO) to support the team. We are looking for a candidate who can apply our agile engineering methodology to every project, problem, and scenario, making effective use of time and money for our clients while providing full-lifecycle spectrum support. A successful candidate for this position will support complex analyses and testing efforts for the U.S. Navy in Dahlgren, Virginia. Located in King George County near the Potomac River, Dahlgren is just 50 miles southeast of Washington DC and provides a quality work environment without the traffic and congestion of a long commute. Dahlgren's unique location offers scenic views of Virginia and access to the Washington/Richmond metropolitan areas through U.S. Routes 3 and 301. Responsibilities
- Applies advanced technical concepts, techniques, and procedures to support multiple project teams in the development of technical products.
- Performs complex engineering work in design, evaluation, planning, testing and operation in support of program level system development, engineering analysis and research.
- Carries out complex assignments requiring the development of new research concepts or improvement of current techniques and procedures.
- Displays an advanced understanding and innovative use of concepts and principles in performing assignments.
- Supervises and reviews activities of staff, scheduling and assigning work to meet program/project completion dates.
- Works closely with senior customer personnel in providing solutions to complex problems and advice on technical issues.
- Exercises independent judgment in conducting complex analyses and development efforts and provides technical direction to other staff.
- Educates and advises more junior technical staff members in the technical aspects of their efforts.
- Prepares and reviews input to major technical reports, status reports, letters, technical memoranda, contract reports and formal briefings.
- Based upon own ideas, prepares unsolicited proposals to secure new projects or the expansion of ongoing project activities that involve support of other staff members.
- Prepares or coordinates the preparation of complex proposals with contributions from several activities.
- Identifies opportunities for new program initiatives. Develops relevant briefings and specific project proposals and works through appropriate channels to schedule presentation of these briefings and proposals to prospective customers.
- Is recognized within the organization in more than one area of technical expertise. Participates in the activities of professional societies. Authors/co-authors technical and scientific articles for publication.
- Complies with applicable quality and security procedures in the performance of duties. Establishes and monitors standards for internal quality programs. Provides recommendations for improvements to existing quality systems or applicable company procedures and guidelines.

Qualifications
- Four (4) year degree from an accredited College or University in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math. Master's Degree preferred.
- Candidate must possess expertise/experience as follows
- Navy/Joint Operational Spectrum Management and National Administrative Spectrum Management processes, applications, and systems
- Application of Navy EMI and EMC criteria for operational spectrum coordination and compatibility analyses
- Operation and evaluation of afloat Navy communications, combat systems, electronic warfare systems, and navigation aids with the ability to develop test plans/reports, perform analytical evaluation of systems' RF compatibility, and develop actionable EMC techniques for operational use
- Experience in conducting Navy spectrum EMI/EMC testing and evaluations, performing engineering analyses to predict and define spectrum EMI problems, define/design corrective measures, and operational implementation of systems in the U.S. Navy
- Experience developing and updating Navy spectrum documentation, fleet operational publications, position papers, white papers, and briefings relating to Navy spectrum considerations
- Experience in trade-off analyses for development, fielding, and life-cycle support of tactical decision aids for electromagnetic spectrum de-confliction
- US Citizenship is required
- A security clearance of an appropriate level may be required after employment
