Summary

Join our System Integration (SI) team whose accomplishments make a positive impact supporting the U.S. Navy and national defense! We are seeking shipboard alteration installers for fleet modernization.The selected candidate will be supporting our Systems Integrations Organization working on active class submarines and surface ships installing, repairing, and troubleshooting electrical distribution systems and/or various types of cables and connectors on Navy and other marine vessels to assist with alterations and installations for fleet modernization on various contracts such as Naval Undersea Warfare Center, Space & Naval Warfare Systems Command and Naval Surface Warfare Center. Selected candidate will be required to travel to shipyards and military bases located around or out of the country when not assigned to a local task. Per diem available based on location when on travel, travel and lodging expenses are covered by the company. #LI-MJ1

*This position requires business travel. HII policy requires that all employees must be complete with their COVID vaccination to engage in business travel.

What you will do
  • Perform routine technical functions in support of engineering activities such as set up, operation, maintenance, modification, circuit testing, calibration and troubleshooting of electronic or electro-mechanical components and systems, experimental design circuitry, prototype models or specialized test equipment.
  • Work from schematics, diagrams, written and verbal instructions.
  • Perform routine operational tests and fault isolation to ensure conformance with design specifications.
  • Diagnose and isolate malfunctions and make necessary repairs.
  • Repair or modify cables and equipment returned by operational users or by personnel in the associated test and development laboratories.
  • Maintain current knowledge of relevant technologies as assigned.
  • Participate in special projects as required.


What you must have
  • Must have High School education/equivalent, and 2 years of related experience.
  • Must have marine electrician experience for installing, repairing, and troubleshooting electrical distribution systems and/or various types of cables and connectors on marine vessels.
  • Must be able to work from schematics, diagrams, blueprints, written and verbal instructions.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret Clearance.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DBIDS/CAC badge for base access/credentials.
  • Must provide own hand tools as designated per trades specialty.
  • Must have a valid drivers license.
  • Must be willing to travel when not assigned to a local tasking.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.


Preferred: Bonus points for...
  • Candidates who are currently enrolled or have graduated from and/or completed a vocational school or skilled trades certificate program are preferred.
  • Applicants with marine electrician journeyman certification is preferred.
  • NAVSEA STD 009-073 Multi-pin Copper Certification is a plus.
  • NAVSEA STD 009-123 Fiber Optic certification is a plus.
  • Prior AIT or active duty experience on current active class submarines is preferred.


Physical Requirements

Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 50 lbs. Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces. Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels. May ride ships at sea for extended periods. May require wearing a respirator. Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States.
