Job Description
The Aegis Combat System (ACS) Live, Virtual, Constructive (LVC) Engineer is a member of the Surface Combat System (CS) Integration Lab (SCIL) team at NSWC Port Hueneme Division (PHD). The ACS LVC Engineer performs engineering and other project activities in order to develop, integrate, and execute virtual ACS systems as part of a Virtual Strike Group.
Duties and Responsibilities
The ACS LVC Engineer has the following duties and responsibilities:
Serves as Technical Lead for the Virtual Test Bed (VTB) requirements and development oversight. In this role, the technical lead collaborates with the Navy Continuous Training Environment (NCTE) operational lead for the test event mission requirements and liaisons with the entire Air Dominance department to ensure these event requirements are met.

- Collaborates with engineering division leads to build integrated project teams (IPTs) and manning plans to support NCTE training events.
- Collaborate with IPTs to design architectures that support specific test event requirements; document these architectures using established diagram standards - e.g. Department of Defense Architecture Framework (DoDAF) SV-1 and SV-2
- Monitors the health and status of test events during execution and directs activities of the integrated project team to address any technical issues.
- Troubleshoot LVC and VTB system related issues and ensure test event system interfaces are configured in accordance with documented interface standards
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related discipline plus 2 to 4 years of directly related experience is required.
In some cases, educational requirements may be adjusted or waived for more than 6 years applicable work experience. Work experience may be adjusted for highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience. Experience working with Navy systems and/or commands.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Should possess a thorough understanding of Aegis Weapon System and Aegis Combat System
- Threats to surface combatants including air and missile threats, surface threats, and undersea
- Models and simulations of relevant threats
- Linux and Windows operating systems and be able to use advanced capabilities of these systems
- Networking concepts, architectures, and transport technologies like TCP/IP
- Knowledge of Distributed Simulation protocols such as High-Level Architecture (HLA) and Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS)
- Familiarization with HLA Federation Object Model (FOM) architecture and/or Object-Oriented Design (OOD) concepts and techniques
- Knowledge of Navy Strike Group C4I tactical systems including CEC, Link 16, and GCCS
- Ability to recognize, analyze, and troubleshoot distributed simulation problems and provide acceptable solutions or corrections
- Ability to provide technical project leadership, establish milestones, estimate resources, and other project management skills
- Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills
