Our fast-paced Compliance team is looking for an experienced Payments Compliance Officer for our Tokyo Office with experience with Card Schemes (e.g. JCB, Visa, MasterCard), payments and/or finance industry. The successful candidate must have strong analytical skills and be able to work as a business partner to connect with a wide range of global teams, including risk, legal, finance and sales, and provide pragmatic advice and guidance to build sustainable growth.

What you’ll do

  • Proactively identify compliance obligations for Adyen in Japan based on Card Schemes and Local Payment Methods Rules and requirements; 
  • Translate identified obligations into relevant Policies and Procedures to be communicated and implemented across the global business;
  • Ensure proper documentation of Japan requirements is produced and provide training to relevant local and global teams;
  • Liaise with local Schemes and Local Payment methods compliance teams;
  • Participate in Product Risk Assessments and advise other compliance verticals on Japan specific requirements;
  • Represent the team on a variety of work streams and products to establish strategies that align with global objectives and ensure controlled and compliant growth;
  • Support and maintain oversight of the first line teams; 
  • Handle escalations from global internal and external stakeholders;
  • Consider opportunities and risks from a variety of angles to achieve compliant solutions that align with commercial and strategic objectives;
  • Advise internal stakeholders and liaise with external stakeholders as well as relevant auditors.
  • Support the Global Scheme Compliance team with global projects. 

Who you are

  • You have at least 3 to 5 years’ experience in Payments/Credit Card industry and/or second line compliance functions;
  • You have a proficient command of Japanese and English;
  • Your knowledge of the finance and/or payment industry will be well established; with experience dealing with Card Networks and Scheme Rules; 
  • You bring deep knowledge of the local Japanese market and have exposure to global business. 
  • You are an analytical thinker who can both draft, and monitor on the implementation of, relevant Policies and Procedures;
  • You have solid interpersonal skills, specifically you will be able to liaise and connect with a variety of internal and external stakeholders and Merchants from varying disciplines and cultures;
  • You feel comfortable and confident addressing senior management. You are able to influence across all levels of the organization; 
  • You have a good sense of business and technical acumen;
  • Your strong sense of initiative and self-motivation will add value to a fast-growing business;
  • You are willing to travel to our global HQ in Amsterdam and to our APAC HQ in Singapore.
