Purpose of Position
The Director, Federal Government Affairs manages all aspects of the federal lobbying and advocacy efforts, developing forward thinking strategies to support policy objectives; crafting federal policy proposals to advance AdvaMed advocacy/legislative/regulatory goals; and generating support for positions among wide spectrum of healthcare policy participants. The Director collaborates with members and health care providers to promote all sectors under the AdvaMed banner and communicate the organization's messaging. The primary purpose (85%) of the position is federal advocacy, with added duties (15%) relating to supporting health policy activities such as internal coordination of members, external communication of advocacy positions to Federal Affairs core constituents (e.g., heads of office, Washington representatives)

Essential Duties of Position
The core functions of this position include the following:
Management Functions
- Plans, organizes, and directs overall government affairs and related public affairs strategies
- Assists with planning, development, and execution of delegated advocacy efforts
- Represents the organization at internal/external meetings and events
- Manages the contracting process of any outside political consultants and ensures effective outcomes-based work
Principal for Federal Government Lobbying and Advocacy
- Serves as federal government lobbyist on AdvaMed objectives before Congress and Administration
- Communicates regulatory positions to regulatory agencies, relevant Administration officials, and Congress
- Develops and implements strategies and communication plans to achieve AdvaMed legislative objectives
- Leads public affairs and advertising efforts related to government affairs
- Supports development and maintenance of strategic advocacy partnerships
Manages Assigned Committees
- Communicates political and policy developments to AdvaMed Member executives and staff
- Leads and develops agendas for regular meetings among Member company government affairs staff and periodic meetings of other groups as assigned
- Presents on progress and status of Government Affairs initiatives to various AdvaMed committees and work groups

Specifications
- Minimum Education Required: Bachelor's degree required; Advanced degree preferred
- Minimum Experience Required: 6+ years relevant experience in a position that requires progressively independent judgment and initiative; previous experience on Capitol Hill a strong plus
