Role overview

The Software Engineer III - Platform (Backend/Python) plays a crucial role in developing and enhancing backend services and applications, focusing on essential business components such as revenue cycle management, health information exchange, and core platform services. Within the VPC Platform team, this position is pivotal in driving product feature areas from conception to implementation, ensuring an exceptional experience for both internal and external users by building secure micro-services for sensitive healthcare data and enhancing our backend systems for optimal performance and reliability.

A day in the life...

  • Understand Project Scope and Requirements: Work closely with the Product Manager and Scrum Master to grasp project details fully, ensuring readiness to meet team goals.
  • Implement Design and Architecture: Work alongside senior team members to execute development tasks, ensuring high-quality coding and alignment with project standards.
  • Deliver Quality Work on Schedule: Ensure timely delivery of high-quality work, showing dedication to both team success and personal accountability.
  • Communicate Effectively: Regularly update the team on task progress, proving your ability to explain complex ideas clearly and demonstrating key technical and creative skills.
  • Technical Ownership: Actively contribute to task management and problem-solving within your area, under senior guidance, to meet team objectives.


What we are looking for...


  • 3+ years of professional experience in software development, including building web services, REST APIs, and backend infrastructure.
  • Strong proficiency in backend development, particularly using Python with Django or other Python frameworks, and databases such as MySQL and Postgres.
  • Knowledge of ElasticSearch and MongoDB is highly valued.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proven ability to thrive in an agile, collaborative, innovative, flexible, and team-oriented environment.
  • Solid understanding of modern DevOps practices.
  • Prior experience in the healthcare sector, especially with HIPAA-compliant systems, is preferred.
  • Familiarity with RCM (revenue cycle management), HIE (health information exchange), and FHIR technologies is advantageous.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
