Lessons Learned
All new FBI employees begin their careers at the FBI Academy, in Quantico, VA, and receive four days of in-residence administrative training as a group. Professional employees then report to their assigned Field Office, while new agent trainees (NATs) and new intelligence analyst trainees (NIATs) remain behind for more in-depth training. NATs stay at the Academy for 19 weeks, while NIATs train for 12 weeks.
Intense Training
All FBI special agents undergo intense physical training throughout their careers—meaning they’re at the FBI Academy initially for 19 weeks and in the gym at least three times a week, performing multiple rounds of weightlifting, sprinting, and weapons training sessions. Experts also expose trainees’ athletic weaknesses and provide personalized recommendations to turn them into strengths.
"Make no mistake, you don’t need to be an athlete to come through these doors. But you must develop the mindset of an athlete in order to protect and serve this country."
- E.J., Health & Fitness Instructor

"In terms of recruitment, we’re looking for people with grit, brains, and heart."
