Senior Bioinformatician - Human Genetics
The bioinformatics team at ZS strive to push the boundaries of genetics, RWE and clinical trial data to make novel biomedical discoveries and precision biomarker development possible. Collaborating with clients on a wide variety of projects, our contributions continuously evolve to meet diverse and changing needs.
We are looking for a curious and experienced bioinformatician with a knack for translating genetics and multi-omics data to precision drug discovery. This role is perfect for someone who thrives in a dynamic environment with hands-on client interactions to understand their challenges and tailor solutions to meet their goals. This position will expose you to a diverse, exciting and challenging project portfolio that covers a wide range of the pharma value chain, requiring adaptability and innovative problem-solving.
The ideal candidate has broad experience in human genetics and clinical phenotypes, and an interest in applying and designing new and powerful tools for discovery of drug targets and biomarkers effective in specific patient subgroups, and a passion for bringing cutting-edge research to real applications.
What You'll Do:
- Design, plan, and lead or execute bioinformatics projects anchored with large-scale genetics, multi-omics for disease understanding, target / biomarker discovery and patient stratification
- Engage directly with clients to scope projects, identify needs, and develop tailored state-of-the-art scientific and technical solutions that align with their strategic goals
- Interpret and communicate genetic findings to project stakeholders (e.g. executives and scientists) via creative visualizations, clear-cut presentations and documents
- Interact with stakeholders cross R&D functional teams and disseminate genetics applications in supporting translational medicine development
- Contribute to the development of new efficient workflows and package pipelines for AI/ML-based bioinformatics applications
What You'll Bring
- Degree in Bioinformatics with population and statistical genetics or related background (or MSc with at least 4-6 years of work experience)
- 2+ years of demonstrated track records and hands-on experience in genetics and functional geneomics
- Good data science and programming skills in R and Python, and relevant bioinformatic tools
- Proficiency with structuring pipelines and workflow for robust, generalizable, and reproducible data analysis
- Good communication and presentation skills. The ability to explain complex analytical concepts to stakeholders from other fields
- Strong team-oriented mindset and interpersonal skills. You contribute to a diverse, open and collaborative working environment, and prioritize knowledge sharing.
Additional Skills:
- Good project management, client facing skills, as well as experience in mentoring and training team members, advising on methodologies and best practices to help overcome technical obstacles
- A proactive mindset with a keen interest in commercial opportunities, leveraging technical expertise to support business development efforts
- A forward-thinking attitude and ability to develop proposals to enhance existing processes and practices
- Strong foundation in applying novel methodologies and AI models for genetic causal inference and patient stratification
- Hands on experience in multi-omics data analysis (epigenomics, proteomics, and/or other modalities)
