Job Summary:

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Planner/Buyer to join our team. This person is responsible for Master Planning & Scheduling, maintaining, and updating the planning system to ensure the integrity of planning data, and creating and following up on work orders for the manufacturing site. This role is crucial for keeping the production schedule on track. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, excellent organizational abilities, and a keen attention to detail. Proactively analyzes and interprets information for Planning systems and determines if the process is in control, accurate, and meeting customers' demand. Makes day-to-day decisions that demonstrate a basic understanding of the financial business drivers. Effectively plans manufacturing resources and diagnoses problems to minimize disruptions to production. Works closely with the Planning Manager to develop and implement department procedures and guidelines, processes, and improvement projects. This person will work directly with Suppliers, Manufacturing, Sales, Distribution, and Engineering to ensure excellent customer service levels while minimizing inventory investments.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain production schedules to meet customer demands and project deadlines.
  • Coordinate with various departments including engineering, procurement, and manufacturing to ensure smooth workflow.
  • Monitor production progress and adjust schedules as needed to address delays or changes in priorities.
  • Maintain and update the planning system to ensure the accuracy and integrity of planning data.
  • Conduct regular audits of planning data to identify and correct discrepancies.
  • Implement system updates and improvements to enhance planning efficiency and accuracy.
  • Monitor the progress of jobs through the production process, ensuring adherence to schedules and addressing any issues that arise.
  • Communicate with production staff to provide guidance and support as needed to ensure successful job completion.
  • Ensure all necessary materials are stocked and available to meet production schedules. Work closely with the procurement team to manage inventory levels and avoid production delays.
  • Oversee the workflow of the production facility to ensure smooth operations. Identify and address bottlenecks or inefficiencies in the production process.
  • Collaborate with production supervisors and other team members to optimize workflow and productivity.
  • Analyze production data to identify trends, inefficiencies, and areas for improvement. Prepare reports on production status, inventory levels, and performance metrics.

Expected Areas of Competence (i.e., knowledge, skills, and abilities)

  • Understanding of MRP techniques, principles, and concepts is required. Power BI development experience is a plus.
  • Ability to quickly and accurately generate action requirements based on Planning System outputs.
  • Excellent spreadsheet skills and proficient use of Microsoft Office products (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and ERP systems experience required.
  • Strong communication skills required with the ability to communicate appropriately with all levels of the organization.
  • Must be an effective team player with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Must have the ability to effectively manage intermediate to complex problems,
  • Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate actions and decisions, and work independently under minimal supervision.
  • Requires good understanding of the manufacturing process (from raw materials to finished product).

Education/Experience Requirements

  • Typically requires bachelor's degree in supply chain, engineering, business discipline or other related fields with a minimum of 2 years of related experience.
  • MBA and APICS certification preferred.
  • Min of 2 years' experience in material requirements planning and inventory control in a manufacturing environment is required.
  • Experience in Medical Device Manufacturing preferred.
  • Work experience with Lean Manufacturing and Six-sigma preferred.
  • Purchasing experience is a plus.
