Sport Boat Engineering Manager

Yamaha has an excellent opportunity for a Sport Boat Engineering Manager to join our Marine team in Kennesaw, GA. The Sport Boat Engineering Manager leads the Sport Boat engineering team. This department develops products and systems that are planned and defined by the Marine Product Management Division (Sport Boat Product Management). This team may collaborate with the Advanced Development team to help inform and ultimately bring concepts to full production by utilizing the QMS gating process. Project engagement will depend on their adoption in to and approval through the annual MTP approval process.

What you'll be doing:

  • Manage existing SB Engineering staff and further build the engineering team to adequately support upcoming MTP projects
  • Create a team culture with clear team & individual expectations that foster creative and innovative thinking, continued learning, and high employee engagement.
  • Lead team to execute against the current MTP strategy, with the flexibility to adapt to potential future directives in strategy.
  • Create a culture/process in support of using the QMS to guide stage-gates, while applying agile concepts to improve team efficiency and project management.
  • Manage SB project list that precipitates from the annual MTP process and guide the team to execute each mass production project primarily from kick-off through P0 stage; This team is informed and consulted from P0 to P5 stage, as the YJBM team has primary responsibility for that portion of development.
  • Ensure continuous & effective cross-functional communication exists between SB development department and other internal (Product Mgmt, Research, Executive, YMC) and external entities (suppliers and outside contract services)
  • Partner and collaborate with engineering teams at the factory (YJBM) and in Japan (YMC) to execute on MTP projects.
  • Manage department group budget through forecasting, resource needs, outside spend, etc.
  • Foster continued learning of the team through first-hand product exposure, structured learning, and continuous industry exposure.
  • Adhere to (and define/improve upon) QMS-process

What you need to be successful:

  • BA / BS degree and/or 4+ years previous experience in a similar position preferred
  • OSHA Maritime Safety, Water/CPR training preferred
  • Strong proficiency in MS Office (i.e., PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.)
  • Ability to travel. Estimated travel is 10%.
