Wilson Sonsini's Regulatory Department is seeking a Senior Business Development Manager who will be responsible for leading the development and execution of the Regulatory practices' marketing and business development plans. The successful candidate will have a wide and deep knowledge base of the Antitrust and Privacy practices in particular; have significant Big Law business development experience in senior roles; significant experience working one-on-one with partners to help them grow their practices; and a high comfort level working in an entrepreneurial environment. The role will work very closely with the leaders and partners of all the practices within the Regulatory Department and report to the Senior Director of Business Development.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the chair of the Regulatory Department and leaders of the Antitrust, Privacy, National Security, and FDA practices to develop and implement their marketing and business development plans
  • Identify and drive process- and technology-based initiatives that increase efficiency and improve the efficacy of the Regulatory Department's business development and marketing activities
  • Oversee the Antitrust, Privacy, National Security, and FDA practices' cornerstone events, sponsorships, public relations, and social media initiatives and programs
  • Build and maintain relationships with key organizations and vendors to maximize engagement and client development efforts
  • Direct the development of marketing collateral, RFP submissions, and pitches that help win business
  • Oversees direct reports who manage and support the marketing and business development activities for the Regulatory practice groups
  • Provide ongoing one-on-one and group counseling to partners within the Department in all stages of marketing and business development
  • Identify cross-practice and cross-region opportunities and collaborate with attorneys and marketing colleagues to develop and drive marketing and business development plans to exploit those opportunities
  • In close collaboration with the Survey/Rankings team, support and continuously drive efficiencies in the rankings and submissions process for the Regulatory practices
  • Develop regular internal communications highlighting the practice and key deals and trends in the marketplace
  • Partner with all the functional groups in the Marketing Department and other administrative groups to plan and execute the Regulatory practice groups' key initiatives

Education & Qualifications:

  • College degree required - JD, MBA or other relevant advanced degree strongly preferred
  • 10+ years marketing/client development experience required, with at least 5 of those years in a Big Law setting
  • Strong commercial sense and confidence to understand the needs and expectations of the attorneys and clients, as well as how the marketing and business development function can facilitate and drive revenue generation and profile in the market.
  • Keen ability to "connect dots"- draw conclusions, assess implications, and make recommendations
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication, persuasion, and motivation skills are critical to success as are collegial, collaborative, team player attributes
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience supporting marketing and business development initiatives for an Antitrust practice of an AmLaw 100 firm
  • Must be a self-starter who thrives on juggling numerous high-visibility projects all on tight deadlines and absolutely unflappable under pressures
  • Ability to travel and attend key events on occasion
  • Position is ideally based in either Washington D.C., New York or San Francisco, but other regions will be considered

The primary location for this job posting is in Washington, D.C., but other locations are also listed. The actual base pay offered will depend upon a variety of factors, including but not limited to the selected candidate's qualifications, years of relevant experience, level of education, professional certifications and licenses, and work location. The anticipated pay range for this position is as follows:

San Francisco and Silicon Valley: $163,200 - $220,800 per year

Austin, Boston, Boulder, District of Columbia, Los Angeles, New York, San Diego, Seattle, and Wilmington: $147,050 - $198,950 per year

Salt Lake City and all other locations: $130,900 - $177,100 per year

The compensation for this position may include a discretionary year-end merit bonus based on performance. We offer a highly competitive salary and benefits package.
