What will you be doing?

Data Center Fiber L1 Technician reporting into our Technical Delivery and Engineering practice capable of performing onsite cabling duties, ensuring quality workmanship is achieved in accordance with industry standards and technical documentation, and perform hands-on work where necessary, on behalf of WWT at various customer locations and works with our Data Center Foreman, WWT Region Field Leads, other cabling technicians, and partner resources and subcontractors.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform work as requested by your WWT supervisor and in accordance with partner resources, data center operations, and associated subcontractors.
  • Assist in the overall on-site project technical requirements including staging, staffing, implementation, and physical infrastructure testing.
  • Ensure cabling and labeling comply with the client's requirements, and industry standards including TIA/EIA 568.
  • Prep cable trays, racks, and switches for new patch cords.
  • Open, label, and unroll patch cords for installation.
  • Efficiently route cables from end point to end point with proper bend radius.
  • Install high density patch panels and route/lace patch cords in racks with appropriate fasteners including hook and loop and cable supports.
  • Perform basic testing of cables including the use of a VFL and OLTS and assist in more advanced physical testing such as cable certifiers and OTDR's.
  • Comply with the safety, technical, and security policy systems of the facility.
  • Notify Lead / Foreman / Supervisors of damaged cables before cables are fully dressed into final location.
  • Advise and provide procurement modifications to the inventory and bill of materials.
  • Follow matrix and cabling diagrams.

Qualifications:

  • One Year Certificate from College or Tech School or a combination of education, training and experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • A minimum of 1-year progressive experience in a related field
  • 6 to 12+ months of direct data center experience in installing and routing optical fiber in large scale Tier 3 or 4 facilities.
  • Recent functional knowledge of Inside Plant (ISP) disciplines, data center infrastructure technologies including fiber optic and electrical cabling, labeling, and lacing conforming to telecom industry standards.
  • BICSI (INSTF, TECH, DCDC) and/or FOA (CFOT, CFOS/S, CFOS/T CFOS/DC) or equivalent knowledge preferred.
  • Experience with small or medium to large, complex project scopes and ambiguous details within work environment.
  • Must have functional experience in Microsoft Office (Excel, Power Point, Word, Teams, Project, etc.).
  • Experience with NVIDIA Data Center installs are a plus
  • Ability to prioritize and use time management practices.
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills and the ability to use judgment and analytical skills in complex installations.
  • Up to 75% domestic travel
