Senior Manager, Engineer – Cloud Platform

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
Within the Wind River Cloud team, we work with large-scale projects like Kubernetes, Docker, OpenStack and fast-paced Open-Source technologies that are in high demand from our customers. Wind River Cloud has adopted these technologies into the core of our product, which is driving us to find experienced and high-performing individuals who can learn and contribute to these container solutions. In addition, the Wind River Cloud team is a leading contributor to the Open Source StarlingX cloud native project, to manage and maintain the critical infrastructure for highly distributed edge solutions, including 5G, Autonomous Vehicles, Industrial Automation, and Augmented Reality. Wind River contributes and builds upon the work within StarlingX to ensure it meets the demands of these critical applications.

The right candidate will possess proven software engineering skills, and ability to manage as part of a large product team. You are expected to be versatile and able to thrive in a dynamic environment. You are comfortable managing competing priorities and can bring order to ambiguous scenarios. You will have the opportunity to lead, manage, and grow a team of Cloud engineers responsible for the development of our Cloud Platform product offering. Maturity, impeccable judgment, and the ability to influence and lead are essential to success in this role.
Responsibilities
- Managing a team of Cloud engineers contributing to ongoing releases of Wind River Cloud Platform including career planning, goal setting, performance assessment, coaching, performance improvement, compensation, conflict resolution, and other people management tasks.
- Develop in an open community, build products based on open-source technologies, and contribute to open-source projects such as Kubernetes, OpenStack and StarlingX.
- Sprint planning and coordination across scrum teams.
- Working with a team of other development and program managers to coordinate work and assure delivery of projects and products.
- Process development and implementation for the direct team and department.
- Contributing to budget allocation and monitoring.
- Interfacing to various other parts of the company such as Test, Engineering Operations, and Product Management

- Experience contributing to open-source projects and leading development in the open-source community.

- Experience in people management including; career planning; performance assessments; performance improvement; mentoring and helping people grow; compensation; and general care of development engineers.
- Successful track record of prioritizing and quickly responding to urgent customer needs and adjusting other engineering work to accommodate. Ability to interact with partner and customer counterparts when required.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s / master's degree in computer science or related field.
- 10+ years of relevant software development experience.
- 7+ years software development management as part of a larger team with interdependent responsibilities in a fast-paced engineering environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with infrastructure software development.
- Track record of building and delivering mission-critical, 24x7 production software systems.
- Contribution to the open-source community.
- Strong sense of ownership, urgency, and drive.
- Strong analytical and debugging skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Experience in Cloud technologies such as OpenStack, Kubernetes and/or StarlingX.

Compensation
The annual base salary range for this role’s listed grade level is $160,000 to $215,000 plus a bonus for Colorado, New York, and New Jersey residents, and $185,000 to $250,000 plus a bonus for SF Bay Area, Greater Seattle, NYC, and Washington, DC, residents. Salary ranges are determined through interviews and a review of the education, experience, knowledge, skills, location, and abilities of the applicant, and equity with other team members. Employees in this role are also eligible for the following benefits in accordance with the terms of the Company's plans: health, dental, vision insurance, life insurance, flex time off, eligibility to enroll in 401k, and 12 paid holidays.
