ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY & THE TEAM
Wind River Systems is seeking multiple high-performing embedded software engineering / business management college graduates to work in our customer-facing Professional Services organization in a Project Manager role.  Positions can start when the student graduates (end of Spring, Summer, Fall or Winter term).  These positions are targeted at college students who will receive a B.S. or M.S. degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electric Engineering, Business or Business Management, or equivalent with experience or a desire to work in the expanding field of embedded software.
The successful candidate will join a highly skilled engineering team delivering state-of-the art projects for and with our customers.  As an Associate Project Manager, you will direct both pre-sales activities as well as project execution.  You will work closely with your assigned mentor, a Senior Project Manager, and your projects Technical Leader and team.  These projects span all domains and often include new technologies, standards and product categories.
The ideal successful candidate should have a mixture of hands-on experience writing software and project management skills.  We are looking for highly adaptable team players who can quickly ramp up on innovative technologies and accomplish goals in a fast-paced agile environment. A combination of strong technical and communication skills is necessary. 
The focus of this role has two main areas:
  • Proposal Development, Estimation and Pre-sales support work with the sales staff, business directors, software engineering technical leads, and other project managers to qualify pre-sales opportunities, perform architecture trade-off analysis and project feasibility, document proposed product solutions, estimate costs, and schedules, prepare written proposals, and present proposals to customers on larger or technically challenging projects or multiple related projects. Your work here will span all the vertical markets listed above and will often allow you to work on next generation technical projects.
  • Project Execution from start to finish. Set-up project development teams and manage the teams to complete small to large projects in technically challenging areas.  You will work directly with our Customers on these projects and you and your team will be responsible for delivering these design projects on time and within budget while meeting feature, quality, and contract requirements and ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction.   
The Project Manager will work with a range of colleagues to assess & formulate plans on how best to address customer needs, enhance the depth of customer relationships, maximize business potential in opportunities assigned, and ensure resources allocated to customer projects are efficiently and appropriately engaged. 
Working in an open, transparent spirit, where partnership & trust are embedded in our culture and critical to success within our entire organization, the Project Manager will regularly work with and through many colleagues, including the Resource Management Office, Engineering, Sales, Finance, and Legal.
Candidates must be US Citizens or green card holders.
The role will work out of one of our offices in North America (such as San Diego or Alameda, California, Ottawa, Canada or San Jose, Costa Rica), or for the right person, be remote.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS
Responsibilities 
  • Primary customer interface and responsible for maintaining customer focus and managing the customer interaction during discovery and evaluation of requirements
  • Manages execution on the opportunity and maintains Wind River inter-group relationships throughout pre-sales life cycle
  • Responsible for delivery of proposal packages including Statements of Work (SOW), project plan, detailed schedule, resources planning, risk assessment and management, cost and profit analysis
  • Conducts technical and business presentations to customers, using your strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ensuring deliverables are world-class standard
  • Projects high levels of confidence and strong technical ability to our customers and has a track record of successful closure on opportunities
  • Embedding a culture of continuously improving & optimizing processes
  • Measuring, analyzing & taking action to continuously improve customer satisfaction including effective escalation management
  • In due course, responsible for the management of Software Engineers and other Project Managers

ABOUT YOU
 
Core Competencies & Demonstrated Success 
  • Engineering project and personnel management skills as demonstrated by successfully planning and managing engineering projects
  • Direct customer interface experience, ideally with a track record of achieving high levels of customer satisfaction
  • Solid English written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated strength in planning and organization; verbal and written communications; effectiveness as a team leader; drive and perseverance in accomplishing goals; professional integrity; adaptability to new projects; resourcefulness; energy and motivation to initiate and complete tasks; and enthusiasm building expertise in the technology
  • If you have experience working with and guiding international teams, that is a plus
Qualifications 
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Business Management, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent
  • If CE, EE or CS, additional course work in business management, a Project Management Institute certificate or a ScrumMaster certificate is a plus
  • If Business degree, hands-on software engineering experience, ideally with embedded systems (software and/or hardware)
  • Strong desire for candidate to have hands-on experience doing Project Management with one or more software safety certification standards such as DO-178C, FACE, IEC61508, IEC62504, ISO26262, etc.
  • Expect up to 10% domestic and international travel

 Compensation                
The annual base salary range for this role’s listed grade level is $79,500 to $119,300 plus a bonus for Colorado, New York, and New Jersey residents, and $79,500 to $119,300 plus a bonus for SF Bay Area, Greater Seattle, NYC, and Washington, DC, residents. Salary ranges are determined through interviews and a review of the education, experience, knowledge, skills, location, and abilities of the applicant, and equity with other team members. Employees in this role are also eligible for the following benefits in accordance with the terms of the Company's plans: health, dental, vision insurance, life insurance, flex time off, eligibility to enroll in 401k, and 12 paid holidays.
