West Monroe is seeking a Managing Director to join our High-Tech & Software practice.  

As a Managing Director, you will serve Software & High-Tech clients and Private Equity investors with a focus on software, TMT, and tech-enabled services businesses.  Engagements range across helping clients with their product/portfolio strategy, optimizing their product management and engineering teams, driving disciplined customer and revenue operations, and optimizing margins. This role will partner with C-level executives, PE investors, and PE operating teams to define, plan and delivery upon value creation engagements both pre- transaction and post-close. In addition to client delivery, you will have the opportunity to assist with business development (hunting new clients and building relationship with existing accounts) along with contributing to internal practice development leadership specifically in the software domain.

Managing Directors within West Monroe have three main responsibilities: 

Client Delivery 

  • Manage teams serving Software & High-Tech and Private Equity clients while demonstrating advisory capabilities with high level client counterparts such as C-level executives, Business Unit GMs, and Private Equity Deal and Operating Partners 
  •  fast-paced strategy & operations engagements for Private Equity and Corporate Strategic clients investing in Software & High-Tech, with an ability to evaluate the market opportunity, product technology, engineering operating teams, and their effects on margins, revenue, and growth risks.  
  • Is comfortable engaging with CPOs, CTOs, COO/CCOs, and CFOs both around operational/technology and financial outcomes
  • Play a key role in value creation within the Software & High-Tech sector (e.g., diligence, post-merger integration, carve-out/divestitures, operating model transformation) focused on initiatives such as product portfolio strategy, margin expansion, topline growth/retention, and operational efficiency & effectiveness
  • Lead large multi-disciplinary project teams (composed of industry experts, product / tech team, GTM team, org design, etc.) to execute complex product transformation engagements for Software & High-Tech companies  

Practice Development 

  • Lead internal /external offering development around product/portfolio strategy, Engineering and R&D effectiveness, Margin expansion in collaboration with our Tech, M&A and product teams  
  • Develop data-driven methodologies and assets including benchmarks for measuring performance for product management and engineering teams for Software & High-Tech businesses  
  • Enhance analysis and presentation frameworks used in Software & High-Tech advisory. Collaborate with a team of technology and operational consulting teams from other practice areas (Product Engineering, Cloud Architecture, IT Strategy, etc.) to develop and enhance delivery capabilities across West Monroe’s practice areas  
  • Actively participate in the performance management process 
  • Actively participate in recruiting and retaining top quality consultants 
  • Assist with company campus and experienced recruiting  

Business Development 

  • Support Directors and Partners in identifying, shaping and projects to new prospects and existing clients 
  • Build trusted advisor relationships with key Tech Operating partners, and client CPOs, CTOs to expand account presence and footprint. Organize and lead pursuit teams to scope, price and develop pitch proposals to Software & High-Tech businesses and Private Equity Investors; collaborate with practice partners to shape these opportunities  
  • Contribute and lead external thought collateral around product and engineering management with the software industry community  
  • Understand client investment needs/constraints and help tailor proposals appropriately to meet their needs 
  • Create work plans, pricing estimates, and risk assessments for potential engagements  
  • Actively participate in Software / Technology industry events  
  • Attend networking events and actively build and leverage a professional network and affiliate network in the local community  

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 15+ years of work experience including at least one of the following:
  • 5+ years of team-based, client-facing management, technology, or strategy consulting to Software and/or high-tech clients (target client size of $250M - $2B)
  • Served in an operational role within the Software & High-Tech sector or in an operating role with private equity firm, specifically in a product or engineering leadership role (CPO, CTO)
  • Experienced in related Software & High-Tech sub-sectors (e.g. Vertical ERPs, EdTech, infrastructure or Cyber providers) / etc.) 
  • Has led complex transformation engagements leading teams of 5-15 consultants 
  • Ability to engage with C-level executives, able to translate product investments and priorities to CFOs/CEOs.  
  • Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience managing client relationships
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and quality assurance experience
  • Strong communication skills to be able to work with C-level clients
  • Ability to travel up to 50%; Travel is short term (2-3 days on-site per diligence engagement, 50-75% during longer-term engagements)
  • Ability to work permanently in the United States without sponsorship 

Based on pay transparency guidelines, a reasonable expectation for the salary range for this role is listed below. Information on our competitive total rewards package, including our bonus structure and benefits is here.  Individual salaries are determined by evaluating a variety of factors including geography, experience, skills, education, and internal equity.​ Employees in proximity of our Seattle, Washington DC, Los Angeles, New York, and San Francisco offices will have a geographic premium applied to this salary scale. 

Employees (and their families) are covered by medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance. Employees are able to enroll in our company’s 401k plan, purchase shares from our employee stock ownership program and be eligible to receive annual bonuses. Employees will also receive unlimited flexible time off and ten paid holidays throughout the calendar year. Ten weeks of paid parental leave will also be available for use after successful completion of one year of employment.​
