Overview

Waters has an exciting and challenging opportunity available for a Controller to support Greater China Waters Division business and enhance accounting and reporting capabilities. This individual will provide vision, leadership and accountability to finance teams across GC in terms of harmonizing best practices, optimizing the control environment and improving processes.

This critical role will ensure compliance and provide sound information to business leaders to enable strong decision making. He / She will also oversee the financial performance of the business entities, establish appropriate measures and structures, and ensure compliance with all statutory requirements. Direct leadership responsibility will be for the Greater China accounting team, including General Ledger, AP, and AR. This is a new role that will report to the Senior Director of Finance for Greater China.

Responsibilities

  • Strategically design and implement key metrics at GC level and cascading to indicate areas of risk, opportunity and focus from accounting and compliance perspectives;
  • Manage all aspects of statutory financial planning and reporting, such as management reporting, tax planning, etc.
  • Oversee all aspects of compliance and controls, including statutory, tax, Sarbane Oxley (SOX), and other related local compliance requirements;
  • Practice controllership and partner with the other functions to design and harmonize best practices to ensure the effective and efficient usage of company resources in driving business results;
  • Perform analysis of internal financial information (P&L, Balance Sheets, Working Capital, Costs, Revenues, etc.) to identify areas of operational improvements, and help to drive for short- and long-term business results;
  • Obtain analysis of external economic information such as inflation, interest rates, exchange rates etc., and provide guidance to business in light of the impact to business;
  • Consult and advise local accountants with complex accounting escalations. Accounting complexities typically center around revenue recognition, foreign exchange accounting and GC service fees allocation.
  • Work effectively with global stakeholders in the broader finance team in terms of financial planning, modelling, and application of U.S. GAAP locally;
  • Assess and optimize the control environment within each entity in GC gaining alignment with internal audit and local teams; Engage in internal and external audits throughout GC to ensure effective controls in place and implement improvements based on findings;
  • Represent GC in global transformation projects such as major system refresh, and guide team in designing appropriate system workflows to suit local needs in the Account to Report workstream.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting or related discipline
  • Minimum 8 years' experience working in accounting and/or finance with progressing responsibility and proven leadership abilities
  • CPA, or 3+ years of Big 4 experience strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with financial management principles customary to U.S corporations
  • Experienced in leading teams
  • Experience with system upgrades strongly preferred
  • Ability to initiate, influence and lead change through influence, to ensure ongoing adherence to policy and best practices
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both Chinese and English
