Waters has established a state-of-the-art lab located at the Science, Technology, and Advanced Research (STAR) Campus of the University of Delaware. A team anchored in Delaware will uncover new trends and opportunities in next-generation bioprocess solutions and will have access to the latest technology in small-scale as well as large-scale bioreactors and analytical instruments. This endeavor will include dynamic collaborations with the National Institute for Innovation in Manufacturing Biopharmaceuticals (NIIMBL), Universities, and companies worldwide. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team of biologists, analytical chemists, data scientists, and bioprocess engineers.

Responsibilities
Carry out research and develop technology for analytical characterization of manufacturing processes for biologics and novel modalities
- Perform cell culture and practice aseptic techniques for developing and processing research-grade cellular products
- Operation of automated small-scale bioreactors and/or bench-top reactors
- Maintains lab equipment and related records and is responsible for vendor management.
- Work with project workstream to develop corresponding delivery schedules and milestones
- Work with end users to develop user requirements for equipment/systems, drive and support prototype technology and provide proof of concept experimental evaluations
- Assist and train junior scientists on day-to-day lab operations, procedures, and processes.
- Foster collaborations with world-leading academics for cutting-edge technology concepts
Qualifications
Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, Biochemistry, or a related field with 4+ years of experience in biopharmaceutical, biotechnology, and CDMO industries or Master's with 8+ years of experience. Exceptional candidates with the right combination of Bachelor's and relevant work experience will be considered.
- Solid theoretical background in cell biology and demonstrated broad knowledge base in cell culture and sterile technique
- Hands-on experience with bioreactor systems, cell culture operations, and PAT. Experience with mammalian cell lines and Ambr high-throughput bioreactors is a strong plus.
- Highly motivated with demonstrated ability to work on research projects.
- Solid judgment/decision-making, the ability to take initiative, creativity, strong problem-solving skills, and freedom to act on their decisions.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and significant evidence of building good collaboration and relationship building with others including biomedical researchers.
