Overview

The Director of Engineering and Technical Support for Taunton leads the Chemical Engineering, Chemistry Technical Support, Column Packing, and Controls and Automation groups, covering 6 direct reports and a total of 19 employees.

The new Taunton manufacturing facility was completed in 2022 and transitioned an existing suite of operations to new equipment with extensive automation systems. This facility produces chromatography media for end use in analytical instrumentation, a highly technical and high-quality end product.

This position is a senior position at the Taunton, reports into the Site leader and sits on the Site Leadership Team. The successful candidate will be a key player in developing site strategy and ensuring its execution.

Responsibilities

  • Supports and drives safety initiatives across the facility ensuring safe processes and operations in all areas of their scope.
  • Develops team members ensuring growth opportunities and support at all levels of their organization.
  • Leads the Chemical Engineering group and provides guidance and support for their work on production operations, batch recipe design, new equipment introduction, and capital project completion.
  • Responsible for the Chemistry Technical Support group in product development, new product introduction, and process improvement activities.
  • Oversees the Controls and Automation activity including completing the deployment and maintenance of the MES and PCS systems.
  • Manages the Column Packing group to support production and meet operational goals.
  • Prepares capex expenditure proposals for the site's major technical investments. Plans projects and leads safe execution to meet success criteria.
  • Troubleshoots technical production / equipment issues and provides solutions.
  • Actively engages in Lean operation system deployment ensuring the success of continuous improvement initiatives across the site.
  • Supports quality and compliance efforts for the site.
  • Practices organizational effectiveness and employee development.

Qualifications

  • Education: Minimum BS in Chemical Engineering or similar field.
    • Lean certification a plus.
  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years' experience in leadership of an engineering or technical function in a chemical production environment.
    • Experience in a PSM covered facility a plus.
  • Deep knowledge of chemical engineering principles and chemical process equipment
  • Knowledge of automation systems required.
    • Experience in PasX MES and Wonderware PCS a significant plus.
  • No specific mental requirements other than the required education and experience.
  • Physical requirements: Light (Lift up to 10 lbs Frequently; Up to 20 lbs occasionally and/or Frequent Walk / Stand and / or Constant Push / Pull). Most of the job requirements will be conducted in a cubicle / workstation environment.
