Your New Role...
The Senior Producer will report to the VP Programming. CNN en Español works closely with the various content generating teams (Newsgathering, Reporters, show producers, planners, digital and social media) to ensure that CNNE shows are maximizing the multi-platform elements that can set their shows apart and add layers of multi-platform content and value to the brands. The SP is a production & content driver who oversees one or more programs during his shift and prioritizes day-to day content and breaking or live news coverage or special programs, while executing to the highest standards of CNN. The Senior Producer reports to the Executive Producer for daily production needs, including individual show & multi-platform needs and thematic or location/special productions. S/he will also work closely with the VP, Programming and VP, Newsgathering.
Your Role Accountabilities...
- The Senior Producer (SP) is a newsroom leader who is the point person for daily production needs required to stay on top of the news of the day to ensure that the individual shows are meeting the needs of the overall network, including driving forward multi-platform content generation & promotion across all screens.
- SP works with producers, bureau managers and VP Newsgathering & Programming to oversee that the shows are including daily news needs into their pre-planned shows and plan content that can cross to digital and social media. The Senior Producer will ensure that the shows within their shifts are using news of the day as the shows execute on the strategies to procure that rundowns, story selection and all ancillary elements like graphic requests, coordination with reporters, writers and other show team members are being done according to the various show brands that have been developed while responding to the needs of editorial planning and coverage of breaking news. S/he will also ensure that valuable show content during their shit is distributed for use by other network programs.
- The Senior Producer helps the producers with theme planning, guest and segment production, working with the Media Coordinators, CM.DOC, Digital, Copy Editor, writer/researchers and Talent (AMJ's/Reporters, Hosts, Collaborators) to create the daily versions of their shows based on the specific show profile, mission and editorial direction outlined for their show including catchy content & headlines for the digital push of their show's content.
- S/he works with the various newsroom departments from coverage to digital planning to ensure that all show elements during their shifts, including planning, day-of specials (debates, town halls etc.) are living up to the highest standards of veracity of content, journalistic integrity, style, and imagery.
- You may be expected to work in the field.
- Proven editorial experience across the media and digital media industry.
- An editorial drive with proven expertise and knowledge of the global news agenda Is needed.
- A record of accomplishment for creativity and innovation and the production of distinctive multi-platform content in coordination with other departments/teams.
- Ability to juggle various priorities and execute against tight deadlines. A record of accomplishment of collaborating in a deadline-driven news environment and an environment where demands and priorities are constantly shifting.
- Exposure to working across different time zones and having a strong understanding of distinct cultures and sensitivities.
- Flexibility and open mindfulness to operate in a fast-changing and exciting news environment.
- Oversees editing of final product.
- You will have a strong understanding of CNN's audiences and data metrics and be able to identify and produce video editorial content with that audience in mind.
- Work with copyeditors to write accurate and engaging push and banner alerts.
- Write, supervise, and/or approve clever and catchy headlines for digital & tv, imaginative teases and select impactful images.
- Collaborate over programming choices and share best practices with members of the wider global programming team.
- The Senior Producer is a leader who inspires creativity and show planning among his/her staff and engages them to think broadly about CN, as well as participate in live coverage will be asked to produce news specials and other special projects as needed as well as be part of live coverages and location production.
- S/he is a key support person in the control room during key coverages or show productions requiring additional editorial and production support, including creation of rundowns, editorial decision-making and live collaboration and liaison with CNNE management and their corresponding Senior Team leaders (EP, DOC, Sr NDJ, Sr. Editorial Producers, Sr Copy Editor etc.)
- S/he will execute editorial decisions and communicate with other managers as important coverages develop.
- The Senior Producer will coordinate and support the network in the control room during live breaking news and rolling coverage by leading the execution of live news and suggesting content elements that the producers can effort to enhance the various elements needed to improve production.
- The SP is a team leader working with the various content-generating teams to ensure that all resources are being used to improve the layers of coverage needed to remain excellent and of the highest execution.
- The SP may be called upon to step up and lead the editorial process in the absence of other executives
- The SP is responsible for all show & multi-platform content that airs and must adhere to CNN's highest standards and practices.
- A real desire to make an impact to make CNN innovative and distinctive.
- Must be willing to work any shift including weekends and overnights and produce & take shows live to air in absence of producers.
Qualifications & Experience...
- 5 years of minimum experience line producing in a local station or at the network level.
- Bilingual in both English and Spanish - 100% fluent in both verbal and written forms.
- Proven experience managing production teams & talent.
- Editorial leader in newsroom and production leader in the control room.
- Experience producing content for digital platforms.
- Has deep understanding of digital and social media strategies and audiences with a record of accomplishment that ensures the production of multi-platform content.
- Excellent writing and communication skills.
- Outstanding editorial skills and production skills necessary.
- The ideal candidate has strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
- Must be flexible and able to work long hours under deadline pressures.
- Knowledge of modern TV news production techniques.
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university or similar work experience is required.
