General summary:
As the Broadcast Sound Guarantee, you'll be the primary contact for production partners and crew, ensuring the flawless setup and delivery of live events. You'll work closely with our onsite broadcast team, leading, planning, setting up, monitoring, and delivering live productions.
Your role will focus on providing technical operational support and guidance to our production partners, understanding their audio production needs, and ensuring successful live event delivery.
This is a shift-based role to cover the production's broadcast schedule, working across various disciplines from studio shows to cloud production and galley-only events. You'll champion the delivery of a wide range of sports, including Champions League football, Grand Slam Tennis, Motorsports, Cycling Grand Tours, and the Olympic Games. Occasionally, you may work on location internationally.
Please note: This is a shift role, on-site only.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure the setup and delivery of Riedel comms, bolero packs, and live audio output for assigned productions
- Collaborate with production, Technical Producers, Technical Manager, and MCR to implement daily audio requirements
- Support the management of Sound Supervisors and freelancers, ensuring staffing needs are covered and deliverables are met
- Deliver technical schematic explainers and associated documentation as needed
- Work with the Resources team and operational management to ensure efficient use of all technical and human resources
- Ensure timely setup and testing, meeting agreed standards
- Collaborate with European broadcasting teams for seamless multi-regional live event delivery
- Act as a key point of contact for upcoming productions and on program days
- Manage equipment failure efficiently to minimize transmission disruptions
- Provide daily audio reports for each production
- Ensure compliance with all Health and Safety policies
- Create, develop, and support team training and skill enhancement to keep operators agile and adaptable to new technical developments
- Identify opportunities for improved workflows, system development, and enhanced reporting
- Support system and software development needs alongside Technical Supervisors and the Engineering team, overseeing testing, implementation, and relevant training
Requirements:
- Extensive experience as a sound operator within the broadcast industry, along with managerial experience
- Thorough understanding and knowledge of sports audio production processes and technical requirements
- Proven ability to form and manage relationships with production partners and clients in an international environment
- Experience in designing and operating complex audio broadcast systems, with knowledge of networking, IP infrastructure, and Lavo desks being an advantage
- Knowledge of Audio Routing, Audio Tagging, Redial Talkback Systems, and BNCS
- Experience managing Sound Supervisors in a busy live environment
- Full understanding of shift-based work and freelancer support networks
- Assertive and able to handle conflict effectively, calmly, and diplomatically
- Proactive in troubleshooting and problem-solving
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to represent Production Operations at all levels
