Your New Role...
The Senior Multi-Platform Multi-Skilled Technical Operator will serve as the primary technical liaison between Doha, Abu Dhabi and Atlanta, ensuring seamless communication and coordination across locations. This role involves proactive leadership of the operations team in Doha, maintaining operational excellence and technical workflow.
The ideal candidate must be proficient in operating a variety of production equipment, including live directing/switching, audio mixing and recording, Basic graphics creation/delivery and lighting console operation. Additionally, the team member must transition between roles as needed. The applicant must possess a desire to learn new technologies as they are implemented and a willingness to work shifts for features and breaking news coverage.
The Senior Lead will leverage their in-depth knowledge of production systems to optimise technical processes, ensuring all production needs are met. This includes overseeing studio usage metrics, managing the readiness of necessary graphics, wipes, and animations for live broadcasts, and ensuring the studio and control room are fully prepared for production. This role will ensure proper staffing levels are in place during live production.
Your Role Accountabilities...
- The senior member of the team will be a subject matter expert, responsible for all technical aspects of live broadcasts/streams ensuring high-quality audio and video.
- Lead the daily studio and control room/multi-function room, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
- Quickly resolve technical issues that arise during live events, minimising disruptions. Ensure all equipment and systems are functioning optimally.
- Work with the technical staff, helping them develop their skills and stay updated with new technologies.
- Ensure that all technical operations meet safety standards.
- Knowledge of software-based video production systems such as Vmix or Viz Tricaster, and the ability to send vertical live video streams to multiple digital platforms, will be required.
- Direct and technical direct live show production, including operating the vision mixer, audio board, robotic/PTZ cameras, and viz graphics.
- Communicate clearly with local producers and talent, and remote teams in Atlanta, London, and Abu Dhabi working on the live show/streams.
- Work with engineering to maintain studio, control room, and editing rooms.
- Set up, light, and shoot video for CNN packages, utilising extensive experience with Sony FX6, FX9, and A7S cameras, as well as vertical video filming, ensuring that both video and audio quality meet CNN's high standards.
- Operate a gimbal daily, both in studio and on location, to support show production and special segments, and operate live equipment, utilising both satellite and digital news gathering technologies.
- Use mobile phones, along with the necessary rigs and accessories, for content filming, and edit both linear and non-linear local content, full-length feature shows, and other highly produced segments, including social video for distribution across multiple platforms, alternating between vertical and horizontal video formats.
Qualifications & Experience...
- Extensive experience in live television production.
- Proficient in non-linear editing (Final Cut Pro/Adobe Premiere).
- In-depth knowledge of camera operation, lighting techniques, audio recording, microwave/satellite operations, and video switching.
- Skilled in offering direction, training, and support to team members.
- Lighting experience in live and field environments.
- Experience in viz graphics operation and knowledge of Mojo equipment and mobile news-gathering techniques.
- Ability to quickly identify and troubleshoot technical issues during production.
- Clear communication skills with the director and crew for smooth production flow.
- Willingness to adapt to changing production requirements and take on different tasks.
- Highly motivated, works well under pressure, and in a team.
- Experience with video over IP and NDI would be an advantage.
- Fluency in Arabic is a plus.
Hybrid Working - This role is advertised as a Hybrid work model, that combines remote and in-office work, following our current company policy and to be agreed with your Line Manager. Subject to any applicable laws, WBD / your Line Manager reserves the right to change this working agreement where this is essential to business needs and upon reasonable notice to you.
