Your New Role...
The Lead Cloud Playout Engineer is a hands-on position responsible for the configuration, management and the technical integrity of cloud and on-premises broadcast playout at Origination Centers. The Lead Cloud Playout Engineers are at the forefront of Cloud and related IT technologies, interacting with the full breadth of AWS services.
The Lead Cloud Playout Engineers will partner with the various operations teams that use and deliver content to the playout systems to improve operational workflows and implement new features as needed.
The Lead Cloud Playout will be responsible for the testing and integration of new configurations and features into broadcast automation systems. The Lead Cloud Playout Engineers will also act as an escalation point for the frontline Engineers in the event of serious issues/errors.
Your Role Accountabilities...
- Deep knowledge and understanding of Broadcast Automation and Playout Systems.
- Deep understanding of application integrations within a cloud playout environment (e.g. between Broadcast Automation and Routing systems etc.) and ability to troubleshoot these integrations.
- Creation, deployment, testing and documentation of new configurations to the broadcast systems.
- Testing of new and existing features provided by the vendor and feeding back issues etc.
- Writing and implementation of test plans and procedures.
- Ability to provide advanced level support of multi-channel playout automation systems, components, and Media workflows, with the ability to quickly execute troubleshooting procedures.
- Work closely with vendors and/or internal departments for quick root cause analysis to air impacting issues and offer workarounds if no immediate solution is available.
- Work closely with vendors to create new features and enhance existing features as needs arise.
- Understanding of network topologies, routing and multicast protocols including Domains, Active Directory, DNS, VLANs, BGP. IGMP.
- Understanding of SMPTE 2022-7, SMPTE 2110, AVC, HEVC, NDI, RTP, SCTE, CC 708/608, Dolby AC3/EAC3, HDR System (PQ, HDR10 etc.) and Transport Streams.
- Understanding of signal routing control systems to route video/audio and Video-over-IP signals.
- Basic scripting knowledge in relevant language (Python etc.).
- Work and influence across teams to move projects and other work forward.
- Train and mentor other engineers on systems, new features etc. as needed.
- Creation and use of standard operating procedures, technical reference documents and drawings for new and existing features.
- Make recommendations for system updates and improvements as needed.
Qualifications & Experiences...
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Electrical Engineering or similar technical field and/or equivalent practical experience.
- Minimum five years of experience as a hands-on IT engineer in a cloud-based broadcast, post-production, or other operational environment.
- Deep understanding of networking, Cloud-based network environments, Cloud computing and Virtual machines (VMs).
- Deep understanding of Windows and Linux servers and/or workstations.
- Working knowledge of MPEG-4 encoders, MPEG Transport Stream analyzers and satellite transmission equipment.
- Experience with Linux, Windows OS, virtual and public and/or private cloud environments and knowledge of basic network troubleshooting using ubiquitous OS tools.
- Working knowledge of remote support tools.
- Ability to work as needed - This position generally works core office hours however there is an on-call and out of hours event support component.
- Strong organizational skills and proficiency in establishing priorities with multiple projects under tight deadlines.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team or individually with minimal supervision.
- Ability to adapt quickly to new or unfamiliar technology and products using documentation and online resources with minimal training.
- Ability to perform well in a high-pressure environment and maintain superior customer service demeanor.
Other requirements:
- Intermediate to advanced level Networking, SAN, and/or other relevant training courses a plus
- Preferred IT certification ex. CCNA, MCP, CompTIA A+/Network+, AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate, VMware Associate or equivalent are also a plus.
- Demonstrated knowledge of serial digital broadcast equipment and measurement equipment.
