PRIMARY PURPOSE OF ROLE

In this role, you will primarily support Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo (WBSTT) across all areas, including operations, retail, marketing, construction, and corporate functions. You will interpret spoken material and translate written material into English/Japanese, ensure meaning and context are maintained, possess knowledge of both languages and cultures, and work with both internal and external clients.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Attend conferences, meetings, inspections, and other business activities acting as official interpreter/ translator to enable discussion and facilitate communication for people with limited English/Japanese proficiency.
  • Provide accurate and high-quality consecutive and simultaneous interpretation from Japanese to English and vice versa as required. This may include interpretation during high-level meetings, 1-on-1 conversations, and group discussions.
  • Work may be on-site, off-site, face-to-face, or remote via technology platforms such as Zoom, MS Teams, etc.
  • Be sensitive to the culture of the original language and the target language during the interpreting/ translation process, relay the style and tone of the original language. Follow up with clients to ensure satisfaction and understanding.
  • Liaise with colleagues to ensure that translations are true to the original meaning, create glossaries/ term dictionaries to accumulate knowledge/experience.
  • Translate formal and informal company documentation when required.
  • Ensure that translated texts meet all relevant editorial requirements, i.e., layout, style, font etc., and deliver translated texts in accordance with the agreed deadline.
  • Accompany foreign visitors and facilitate communication.
  • Provide general administrative support for the team as necessary.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum 5 years of work experience as an interpreter, translator, or similar role.
  • Bilingual, fluent in both English and Japanese
  • Good understanding and in-depth knowledge of language/country-specific cultures.
  • Detail-oriented, with a passion for linguistic quality.
  • Editing and proofreading skills.
  • Ability to project and be articulate when supporting meetings, presentations, etc.
  • Time-management skills.
  • Basic skills in Windows, MS Office, and PC.
  • Work experience in entertainment /construction/ theme-park industry are a plus.
