Your New Role

Overview of the internships

We have multiple Documentary, Unscripted & Digital Content Production & Programming/Development internship opportunities available. By applying to this posting, you will be considered for all internship opportunities within this area. These internships will be located in the NYC area. The selected interns will be expected to join us in the office on a regular cadence based on the intern manager's in office schedule.

This could include, but is not limited to:

  • HBO Documentary Programming Intern: NYC - Spring 2025


  • Magnolia Network Content Development Intern: NYC - Spring 2025

Your Role Accountabilities

Duties could include:

  • A hands-on role on our team working in all aspects of production
  • Maintain trackers, assist in scripting, input production calendars into project management systems such as Asana, and organize/track video assets and corresponding deliverables as they are submitted for review and final delivery
  • Participate in meeting kick-offs, brainstorms, pre-pros etc. and is responsible for all minutes/notes, creating a feedback loop with your Producers and Ad Sales Marketing team
  • Actively participate in all meetings and pitch ideas
  • Immerse yourself in the data around the videos you and others -- both on the team and at other publishers -- are making, and use that as a guide to smart decision-making for future videos
  • Keep track of trends in digital marketing and integrated video and suggest ways we can implement them in our own campaigns
  • Screening and writing coverage for documentary films
  • Experience pitch meetings first-hand
  • Support department in administration upkeep by maintaining the organization of departmental tracking systems
  • Research and various projects including a semester long development project
  • Assist the Production Executives with their creative needs
  • Learn how to build pitch decks, write loglines and show descriptions
  • Organize and track internal and external ideas in all phases of development
  • Edit casting tapes
  • Present series ideas for their own intern project
  • Gain hands on experience to learn what it's truly like to work in production

Qualifications & Experience

  • Pursuing a degree in tv/film production or related field
  • Strong interest in documentaries
  • Must be a self-starter and strong teammate who can work independently and responsibly
  • Must be highly organized and very comfortable operating in a startup-style, fast-paced environment
  • Must have excellent organizational and time management skills and ability to manage multiple assignments at once
  • Spreadsheet and analytical skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Willing to work with a team and independently
  • Familiarity with all Microsoft applications
  • Excellent MS Excel and PowerPoint skills
  • Good written and verbal communication skills and proven ability to develop strong professional relationships with internal and external parties
  • Ability to work under pressure, multitask and prioritize deliverables/projects with competing deadlines
  • Must be actively enrolled in an accredited college or university degree program for the full duration of the internship (proof of enrollment required)


  • Must be a rising Junior or Senior (18 years or older)


  • Must be in academic good standing (3.0 or above cumulative GPA) A transcript will be required to verify your GPA if an offer is extended.


  • Warner Bros. Discovery will only consider candidates who are presently authorized to work for any employer in the United States and who will not require work visa sponsorship from Warner Bros. Discovery now or in the future in order to retain their authorization to work in the United States. Candidates currently on any student or exchange visa, including F-1 CPT, F-1 OPT, J-1, M-1, etc., will not be eligible for the internship program.

The Nice to Haves

  • Food/culinary, lifestyle and/or factual media experience
  • Previous experience working with documentaries or unscripted content
  • Experience working for a studio/network with digital entities
  • Familiarity with Premiere Pro a plus

What to know before applying:

  • The duration of the program is 12 weeks

Program dates:

  • Start Date: January 27th


  • End Date: April 18th


  • Interns will be expected to work 16-24 hours per week in a hybrid capacity.


  • Our internships are paid opportunities with a competitive hourly wage. Credit is not required; however, we will provide the necessary documentation for school credit if desired. Relocation is not provided.


  • Interviewing will take place from October through December. A WBD team member will contact you if your experiences and interests match an open internship position. Due to the high volume of applications, we are unable to give individual status updates.

In compliance with local law, we are disclosing the compensation for roles in locations where legally required. Pay Rate: $19 per hour USD for undergrad interns.
