CNN News Associate Program - Washington, DC
This 15-month News Associate program will feature hands-on rotational positions where early career journalists will develop their journalistic skills. They will have access to networking and coaching with the best and brightest in the industry. They will gain exposure to various news operations by being in the heart of the action. This is a unique experience that will jump start a career in journalism. This program is paid, with full time hours and eligibility for benefits.
While full-time employment is not guaranteed at the end of the program, this is a great opportunity to position yourself for a career at CNN and WBD.
The Job
- Editorial training program in a D.C. CNN newsroom.
- Works with Newsroom management to support news coverage and show production.
- D.C. News Associates will print scripts for anchors, operate the Teleprompter and greet guests.
- Work with live producers, show staffs and reporters on live shots, show production, and coverage of live events.
- Work with digital teams on researching and writing stories for CNN.com.
- Monitor a variety of sources, including social media, wires and local news to assist in newsgathering efforts.
- Conduct research at the direction of producers and desk management, which may include identifying video or digital stories.
- Pitch stories for various CNN networks and platforms.
The Essentials
- A bachelor's degree in journalism or related field of study is preferred, or equivalent experience.
- At least one internship in a news environment and previous newsroom experience is preferred.
- Strong general news judgment and editorial skills.
- Strong writing skills
- Should have the ability to multi-task and make fast decisions.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Candidate should be computer literate and have a working knowledge of social media.
- CNN newsrooms are staffed 24 hours a day. Candidates should be prepared to work onsite in D.C. for various shifts including overnights and weekends.
In compliance with local law, we are disclosing the compensation, or a range thereof, for roles in locations where legally required. Actual salaries will vary based on several factors, including but not limited to external market data, internal equity, location, skill set, experience, and/or performance. Base pay is just one component of Warner Bros. Discovery's total compensation package for employees. Pay Range: $24.88 per hour.
