Your New Role:
The Camera Operator works closely with the Show Director, Technical Director, Video Engineer, Stage Manager, other Camera Operators and Camera Utilities. This position is responsible for assisting in the set up and strike of all cameras and camera equipment required for the execution of the production. The Camera Operator takes direction from the Show Director and/or Technical Director in terms of camera movement, lens zooms, lens focus and achieving the desired picture framing. This position may also be responsible for operating camera types such as studio pedestal cameras, cameras on tripods and/or handheld cameras.

Your Role Accountabilities:

LIVE/TAPED PRODUCTIONS

  • Works closely with the Technical Director, Stage Manager and Video Engineer to setup and connect (fax) the cameras with the Production Control Room and/or Remote Production Truck
  • Works with the Show Director and Technical Director to achieve the desired picture framing, camera movement, lens zoom while maintain a sharp lens focus
  • Works to attempt new camera shots during rehearsals and at appropriate times during broadcasts, selling them to the Show Director for use
  • As appropriate offer a variety of different types of shots to the Show Director with a variety of camera types such as studio pedestal cameras, cameras on tripods and/or handheld cameras
  • Collaborates with the Show Director, Technical Director, Video Engineer, Technical Operations Manager, and other Camera Operators to determine the location, setup, operation, and strike of the cameras

COLLABORATION & COMMUNICATION

  • Work closely with the Video Engineers, Technical Operations and Production (BEST) Engineering to identify, troubleshoot and solve technical problems surrounding the different studio cameras involved in productions. Making sure each problem is resolved to completion

Qualifications & Experiences:

  • 3 - 5 years of network level broadcast production experience operating as a camera operator for live and/or taped studio and remote multi-camera productions
  • Knowledgeable of current industry standards
  • Knowledge of and ability to operate at a network level skillset different types of studio/remote production cameras such as camera studio pedestals, cameras on tripods, Handheld cameras
  • Knowledge of camera movements (zoom, tilt, pan, focus, pedestal, dolly)
  • Knowledge of camera settings/menus (viewfinder, comms, etc.)
  • Able to build and strike studio pedestal cameras including adding/removal of the teleprompter
  • Must have strong leadership skills as well as excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner
  • Must take ownership and accountability for assigned projects
  • Good computer skills, a logical approach and creative eye
  • Must be able to handle the pressures of live programming and limited time constraints
  • Able to work flexible, non-traditional hours including weekends and holidays

Not Required but preferred experience:

  • Understanding of 4k camera technology
  • Knowledgeable of new technologies available or on the horizon
