As a Walmart Staff Software Engineer (Data), you will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and implementing cutting-edge solutions. You will be responsible for building and optimizing robust data solutions, ensuring data governance, and integrating data science workflows into production

  • Leads and participates in medium- to large-scale projects by reviewing project requirements, translating requirements into technical solutions, gathering requested information, writing, and developing code, conducting unit testing. Communicating status and issues to team members and stakeholders.

  • Collaborating with project team and cross functional teams. Troubleshooting open issues and bug-fixes, ensuring on-time delivery and hand-offs. Interacting with project manager to provide input on project plan.


  • Models' compliance with company policies, procedures and supports company mission, values, and standards of ethics and integrity by incorporating these into the development and implementation of business plans.


  • Creates training documentation. Oversees the tasks of less experienced programmers and stipulates system troubleshooting supports.


  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and develop scalable, high-performance software solutions.


  • Take ownership of data components, data pipelines development and deployment


  • Utilize your expertise in Spark, Scala, Python, Airflow in building and optimizing robust data solutions, ensuring data governance, and integrating data science workflows


  • Utilize your expertise in NodeJS, Java and microservices to create robust and efficient applications.


  • Design and optimize database using SQL and NoSQL technologies for data storage and retrieval


  • Implement event-driven architectures using Kafka and ensure seamless integration with other systems.


  • Work with cloud platforms such as GCP and Azure to build scalable and secure applications.


  • Explore and learn new tools and techniques in AI, GenAI and ML


  • Develop and optimize queries using Big Query to analyze large datasets.


  • Collaborate with the team to perform code reviews, provide constructive feedback, and ensure high-quality code delivery.


  • Stay updated with emerging technologies and industry best practices and contribute to knowledge sharing within the team.

What you'll Bring

  • At least 9+ years of relevant experience in building highly resilient, scalable data pipelines for real-time and batch processing.


  • A good understanding of Microservices .


  • Hands on experience with Spark, Scala, Python , Kafka (or other messaging service), relational DBMS (MSQL, MySQL etc ), NoSQL ( e.g : Cassandra, MongoDB) data stores


  • Should be hands on writing/reviewing design & code.


  • Understand the product and project management space with Agile methodologies.


  • CI/CD development environments/tools: Git, Maven, Jenkins.


  • Demonstrate end-to-end ownership for development and design of least one cloud-based project - Experience in building extensible platforms, data pipelines are desirable.


  • Familiarity with modern data architectures (data lakes, data warehouses, data lake) and cloud platforms (GCP, or Azure).


  • Experience in data analysis and visualization using tools like Pandas , NumPy , Matplotlib , or Excel.


  • Familiarity with Generative AI concepts (e.g., GPT, text-to-image generation) and an eagerness to explore related technologies.


  • Basic knowledge of machine learning algorithms and techniques.


  • Strong desire to drive change, and ability to adapt to change quickly. Proficient in new and emerging technologies.


  • Ability to balance the long-term "big picture" and short-term implications of design decisions.


  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills - including negotiation, facilitation, and consensus building skills; ability to influence and persuade, without direct control.


  • Mentoring/coaching other engineers


  • Focus on reusability, frameworks, patterns and configurations tools for faster development.


  • Practitioner of Agile (Scrum) methodology

Reston, Virginia US-07759:The annual salary range for this position is $132,000.00-$264,000.00

Bentonville, Arkansas US-10424:The annual salary range for this position is $110,000.00-$220,000.00

Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.
