About the Team

The Grocery Automation team delivers automation solutions that unlock capacity, accuracy, and speed to deliver customer and associate value specifically within our perishable grocery network. We are modernizing and building an agile and predictable end-to-end network to deliver consistent customer experience at the optimal cost.

This role sits within Firm Engineering which manages the detailed design of new Automated Distribution Centers for the Grocery Network. In this role you will lead the 2D design initiatives for the center, collaborating with Architect, General Contractor, Material Handling Vendor, Maintenance and Operations partners. In addition, this role will manage the innovation initiatives for automation equipment, providing thought leadership on how to integrate best-in-class technology enhancements into the conveyance systems.

In this role, you will partner with our Stores, Supply Chain, and Delivery teams to develop an end-to-end operating model of the future. You will report to a Director of Automation Engineering, and leadership expectations will be discussed during the recruitment process. This role is located in Bentonville, Arkansas; a full relocation package is available, but we are not considering remote candidates. Anticipated travel for this role is 15%.

What you'll do:

  • Automation System Design:
    • Deliver a 2D layout that accounts for all detailed elements in a facility (storage racking & fire suppression, aisles & bollard protection, electrical and network requirements, etc.)
    • Coordinate with the Material Handling Vendor on the detailed design for the automation system, and ensure facility modifications are coordinated with the Architect and General Contractor
    • Develop an enhancement strategy for safety, maintenance and associate access within the automation system, and deliver a design solution for multiple upcoming facilities
    • Scope and design innovation solutions with the existing Material Handling Vendor, and document software requirements when applicable to enable the system
    • Leverage applications such as AutoCAD 2D, Navisworks and Revit to create and validate designs
  • Innovation Design:
    • Partner with industry technology leaders to incorporate MHE and Vision enhancements within existing designs to enable new capabilities for the Operation and Grocery Network
    • Lead the integration initiatives for the enhancements into the existing MHE Vendor's layout and logic
    • Align on scopes of work, pricing, and acceptance criteria for innovation pilots, and partner with the legal and procurement teams to execute
  • Operational Excellence:
    • Leverage a front-line obsession to design end-to-end solutions that are fluid for the associate; ergonomics, ease of access, and an optimal work environment are critical to the associate experience
  • Data and Digital Literacy:
    • Apply data analysis and data modeling techniques to establish, modify, and maintain data models and associated components
    • Use data analytics to inform automation system and process decisions for the facility
    • Leverage applications such as SQL, MS Excel and MS Access to analyze data
  • Partnership, Collaboration & Communication :
    • Engage with team members on a periodic basis to establish credibility and analyze partner needs
    • Organize thoughts and communicate articulately, confidently, credibly, and concisely within scope
    • Independently assemble and prepare documents, materials and presentations that have a structure and logical flow and are based on relevant fact-based and data-driven information.
    • Influence teams and leaders to take meaningful action based on recommendations

What you'll bring...

  • A Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in Engineering - industrial/mechanical preferred, but open to other disciplines based on experience
  • 4+ years of Engineering experience - Supply Chain fulfillment or distribution experience is preferred
  • Passion about problem-solving
  • Comfortability influencing others, managing team members, and getting support from leadership
  • Understanding of construction technologies, including: architectural acumen, knowledge of refrigeration & fire suppression
  • Previous work with BIM360, Navisworks, Autodesk Revit, and/or AutoCAD

The annual salary range for this position is $110,000.00-$220,000.00

Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.
